No that was about the Cabri. The Bell does have a governor too, though if anything the weirdness (?) is that there seems to be no way to turn it off and revert to manual control. Note that the Bell governor doesn’t actually twist the grip like Cabri governor does.
Anyway, back home and I spent some time examining throttle on the Bell.
First of all you can actually bind it to an axis without third party apps! Just bind it to prop axis or prop 1 axis. It won’t change the animation, but it does operate the business end of the throttle under the hood (except the idle cut off). But since the governor seems to be always on all the way to idle, all this seems to do is cause a momentary change and then the governor takes over and does it’s own thing. Using the governor off binding from control options doesn’t seem to do anything.
If you want to get the animation part working as well then you need to use the previously mentioned Lvar (L:CollectiveGrip, Percent) with third part control configuration app. Both the Lvar and the SimConnect K event (probably both AXIS_PROPELLER_SET and PROP_PITCH_SET work) need to be used to get same functionality as with mouse.
Well, I’ve set Rotor Governor Switch On and Rotor Governor Switch Off on a switch on my Virpil collective and it works fine, switch it off with that and the governor no longer interferes with the twist grip I have set to Propeller Axis, animation and all works with just that. No need for using sim variables.
Then I added Toggle Starter 1 on a button also on the collective grip and Toggle Rotor Clutch Switch, as that doesn’t have a on and off assignment for some reason, only a Set Rotor Clutch Switch, no idea how that works, and Set Plasma On and Off on another switch.
And then I set the Mixture Axis (0 to 100%) and Rotor Brake to two axis on my Bravo, the Rotor Brake does have an axis assignment unfortunately so only acts like a button in action but it’s the closest physical real life movement.
Found this topic and hope someone can help me.
I have a Virpil CM3 Throttle, so for planes usual but whatever …
(Tried mostly in the Cabri, only once in the 407, so not entirely sure)
My issue is, that the throttle lever always also gives some collective input, although it is not bound to that in any way. And after trying around with the governor and throttle, i have to reset the flight as nothing is working any more.
I don’t like to switch profiles and so far this works wihout a problem.
As i can split the throttle levers, i have bound Prop and Throttle for aircraft on the left (small) one which is the x-Axis.
The heli throttle is also on the x-Axis
The collective for helis is on the right (big) lever witch is the y-Axis.
In aircraft i just combine them and it’s all fine.
I also have a button for the governor toggle for helis.
Spawning and not touching the throttle and governor and just using the y-Axis works perfectly.
But as soon as i try to set the throttle myself (with or without governor activated) everything gets messed up.
The throttle also changes the collective somehow and even after reactivating the governor, collective doesn’t work any more and only a restart works.
I even tried a new profile only for helis, but with the same result.
Am i missing something? Is this a bug? Doesn’t seem right to me, that the throttle also moves the collective.
If you are on a helicopter, prop axis is coupled to helicopter throttle axis and (normal) throttle axis is coupled to the helicopter collective axis.
So in your case you have effectively bound helicopter throttle twice over on your x axis (prop axis and helo throttle), and have also bound collective axis on the x axis (via normal throttle axis).
Any suggestions for throttle/ prop management bindings for a non twist joystick with just two buttons spare (they’re usually vertical trim)? I prefer not to use the keyboard if it can be helped.
And any extra pedal bindings or rear rotor management for Helicopters as even with full deflection mine (Cabri) really strugges with yawing right?
Why on earth would Microsoft/Asobo do that and put collective on the throttle axis?
Where is the purpose of having separate prop, throttle, heli throttle and collective axis/inputs but conneting them again in the end? What an absolute bs.
I remapped my controls now.
prop axis and heli throttle = X Axis of my Virpil Throttle
normal throttle and collective = Y Axis of my Virpil Throttle
For heli flying i split the throttle lever and just use the Y Axis basically and for planes, no matter which one, i combine the throttle lever. That way i can use one profile for both.
Deactivating the governor and control the rpm of the heli myself now perfectly works.
The only flaw now is, if the governor is still active and i (accidentaly) move the second throttle lever it messes up the rpm. The only way to recover is shutting down the motor and restart it. Not tried that in the air, but on the ground it works. But that’s at least way better than restarting the whole flight.
Any idea - or even better solution - why de- and reactivating the governor doesn’t retake control of the motor and the controlling of the rpm?
I got the collective working on my Airbus H145 but cannot find a way to setup the throttle. I am using the Winwing Orion 2 F-16 Viper Joystick Combo,JGRIP-F16&J2-2-BASE. Anyone have any suggestions??? It seems like somehow it is tied to the collective and I cannot seperate the two. Thanks in advance…
I will try this, I have the MaxFlightStick helicopter simulator controls, and I need to have a separate throttle. (1) collective, 2) twist-grip throttle.
