ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Description of the issue:
Default center of gravity on the Air Tractor is too far aft (and possibly too high). In career mode it’s borderline uncontrollable and cannot be adjusted. It flies nose high which leads to excessive drag - you can barely get off the ground without overtorquing the engine. It is only marginally stable in the yaw axis. I once nearly went into a spin flying in a straight line at cruising speed and altitude. Moving the CG forward helps these issues, but this is impossible in career mode as the option to move the empty CG is disabled. 38% is the default position, 20-25% feels more correct. Even then it feels a little off…the wing loading feels too high, like a 0 got left off a Reynolds number somewhere. And it still needs a lot of down elevator trim.
The center of gravity may also be set too high, as any aileron input induces excessive yaw, but it’s hard to tell if that’s the reason. It feels like it’s rotating around the top of the fuselage. Either that or there is more drag being applied to the downward deflected aileron than the upward.
The yaw (and probably pitch) moment of inertia is too low, but I think that’s a general problem with the flight model as it is prevalent in many aircraft - hence getting blown all over the taxiways by the slightest crosswind and controls feeling overly twitchy (even with adjusted dead zones and curves).
Just to check myself, I watched some cockpit videos from a real AT-802 - and it handles nothing like the simulator version. The dude I was watching even gave his torque and RPM readings, which were pretty moderate compared to ours, and he never lost more than 15 mph while pulling far sharper turns and steeper climb outs. 115-130 mph the whole time, never touched the throttle, the thing flew like a fighter. Ours just kind of skids around like a drunken ice skater.
PS - I don’t understand why the Cessna Ag Truck is all over the graphics, is in the game, but we can’t fly it in career. But I digress.
