Brief description of the issue:

TTS mispronounces Traverse City, Michigan.
It is supposed to be pronounced: tră’-vĂ»rs
Instead it is being pronounced like the word: trə-vĂ»rs’
Here is a video (0:33) showing the proper pronunciation produced by the city’s tourism department. If you let the video play, you will hear it pronounced several times.

In other mispronunciation bug reports I’ve done, I’ve always given a suggestion on how I think the .tts entries in the .locPak file could be modified. However, in this one, I do not have one because I do not know how to force the emphasis on the first syllable instead of the second syllable. It’s been done before with words like “resume”, “RNAV”, and “wind”, so I know that kind of thing is possible.

However, I will say that these are the two applicable .locPak lines that must be fixed:

“ATCCOM.AGENT_NAME TRAVERSE CITY.0.tts”: “Traverse City”,
“ATCCOM.AIRPORT KTVC.0.tts”: “Traverse City”,

How it’s mispronounced by ATC today:

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

  1. Start Microsoft Flight Simulator.
  2. Start a flight at KTVC airport on a runway.
  3. You don’t even have to takeoff. Just listen for the pre-flight cinematics where the pilot will talk to ATC.

Expected result: The pilot says, “Traverse City”, pronounced like tră’-vĂ»rs
Observed result: The pilot pronounces it as trə-vĂ»rs’ instead. (See above video.)

Also, this does happen in the current build as well.

You should stay away from Hawaii then - Azure has a heck of a time with half the airports there! Another one I hear a lot since I use it pretty often is TJIG. The name is Dominicci, which should be pronounced do-MI-ni-chee, but Azure completely butchers it with do-MI-nik-sai.

I can’t recall the exact circumstance but sometimes my pilot pronounces my November number in a odd way. Always use N182AV. I think when confirming flight following saying, “Roger 2 Alpha Victor.” But will pronounce Alpha (Alf-ah) as Alphie (Alf-eee)
