ATC doesn't answer when overflying KGTB (Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield, Fort Drum, NY)

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

KGTB - Wheeler Sack Army Airfield in northern NY possesses controlled airspace around it. When attempting to enter and/or overfly the airspace, Center attempts to hands you off to “Wheeler Sack”, but once you attempt to communicate with them there’s nothing but silence. There’s also no option in the Comm box to try to contact them, go back to Center, nor can you Cancel IFR. Eventually, after enough distance has passed their airspace, Center becomes available once again in the comm box. You have to request Flight Following.

It’s probably the same bug that occurs with other handoffs, the sim didn’t auto switch the frequency. That’s why the comms came back when you traveled away from the airport it was trying to hand you off to. It is annoying.

Luckily there is a workaround. Next time this happens, check the comms window to see what frequency it told you to switch to, then manually adjust the radio to that frequency.
