I don’t think that there’s any ambiguity that the more realistic the weather is - whether “real-time” or user-designed - the better.
The least common denomiator for weather should always be replicating real-world phenomena plausibly, again, whether real-time or user-designed.
If I want to practice in conditions with a 1000 foot broken ceiling and 5 miles visibility in haze, (or, simply, 4 miles visibility) it shouldn’t take a series of updates, or include the possibility of the needed functionality being removed from the sim due to user outcry.
When you consider that centerline lights are 50ft apart, we’re looking at about 250ft visibility in my screenshots and your last one. That’s really not too bad at depicting CatIII conditions.
Agree with you totally. I miss having a haze layer in MSFS so much and even XPlane11 plugins do this nicely. As you said, it all looks too good all the time (visibility).
Coming to what you said about saturation. I highly recommend ReShade which can fix this. Download the Legacy filters into it , select the Color tab and ramp down the saturation. There is also a Vibrance filter. Works extremely well and goes a long way to removing the cartoony look the game has sometimes.
I just wish the haze that was there was blue like in GamingCat’s post 98 or 99 (bottom pic). The humidity slider in the presets creates a reddish haze like smog. It used to be labelled ‘aerosols’ which is more appropriate. They need both. Smog sits in ‘bubbles’ over cities but water vapor haze is everywhere.
The sim had haze at the beginning but people complained about night lighting and they removed it. It was always too uniform imo. I’m hoping they can find ways to use the ‘fog’ to create fog, areas of reduced visibility, and also those soft clouds that often appear near the tops of some cumulus.
I really agree with this. A haze layer is certainly a very common occurrence in every day flying, and would add a lot to the weather engine.
That would allow us to create inversion layers as well. And of course having the ability to set very low visibilities, or a medium visibility with a low cloud base.
I finally got around to getting the pics I want to explain what I mean by too much haze in live weather. Visibility today was 25km+ easily and I took a pic of the airport IRL and a screenshot of the same area with live weather on.
IOW @DrBear8555 Please go back and watch the Developer Q&A’s going back through last year. All of your points are discussed and, as @Mobias7 said, are under continuous development.
I am saddened by the fact that when Asobo gets it right many times, they decide to back off due to feedback from users. But, I can’t decide their priorities for them.
Not sure I will go back to 60min videos but thanks for the heads up!
I think you are right, they are a bit erratic in the way they listen to people. I know it’s easy to criticise, and thanks God they listen on certain things (i.e. introduction of VR). But I think I agree with you that keep changing technical aspects such as weather based on feedbacks isn’t helpful. You end up with a hybrid… Now, this is philosophy and I cannot even imagine how hard it must be, I am probably being unfair…
geez by that logic they shouldn’t have added the drone functionality for outside views/cameras
…and btw it was visible from inside the cockpit… was a w t f moment so i just had to take the external screenshots… haven’t noticed this before.
Even clear skies has haze, lots of haze, and now it looks somewhat denser (SU10?). Looks completely unnatural to my eyes, but it could be that haze varies worldwide, and possibly with seasons as well.
This is california, flying south along the coast from SFO to LAX early in the morning, with CLEAR SKIES preset in SU10… It’s nice, but it doesnt look “clear” at all. There should be a truly clear option, for sightseeing. Moisture = 0, possibly.
I am sure live weather is far from perfect. The person above mentioned “clear sky present”. I am sure live weather will improve, but I can assure you I get plenty of good visibility with the live weather too.
