ATR 72-600 by Asobo

Brief description of the issue:

Setting up the plane for take off with all associated checklists works fantastic. Expected take off behavior after rotate not working as expected.

Expectations: After wheels off the ground, gear up, auto pilot on, with hdg sel, and ias climb, pwr selector to climb. Once flaps retract the speed target (magenta) goes from 128-136 to 170. I am expecting the plane to maintain its climb profile, shallow out a little bit, and reach 170 while nose up.

Problem: The behavior after wheels up, autopilot on as described above, pwr setting to climb. Once flaps are raised, the speed changes to 170, the plane levels out accelerates to 170kts then resumes its climb

Side note: I’m presuming the autopilot is not complete as flight plans don’t show up properly by showing the curvature of the expected turn. It looks rather choppy compared to real life counterpart.

If you updated … ATR Course knobs on the virtual cockpit not working - #17

Maybe I missed one I did buy it through msfs 2020 store. Thanks for the heads up.

If I may ask does this climb logic seem normal to you? That is what the inquiry was posted about.

As far as I remember, the real world procedure is:

  • take off with power selector at TO position

  • aim for 9-10° pitch up

  • gear up, yaw damper on (but no auto pilot yet)

  • flaps up at flap speed

  • at 1.000ft AGL level off and let the airplane accelerate to 170kts

  • after reaching 170kts pwr selector to CLB

  • auto pilot on with NAV mode and IAS

  • airplane now climbs at 170kts to selected altitude.

Autopilot is not just a “fire and forget” system like in other games. The expectation that you just need to push one button and everything is smooth and easy after that is incorrect. Some aircraft in the sim do this because the developer did not fully simulate the autopilot system.

Bottom line: don’t expect anything; try and see what a specific aircraft does and then modify things the way you want to fly.

Man I think you right after watching Magnus Nordal, and a couple of other departures. AP ISNT SET UNTIL CLM mode selected and 170 target is reached.

This can be closed if needed problem is solved. I don’t know how to do it if I need to.
