Brief description of the issue:

I am currently running the latest build of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 on my X-Box S.

I am running into a problem using the ATR-72 not being able to control the nose wheel.

I have confirmed the following:

  1. When starting the ATR-72 from the runway I have no issues and the nose wheel responds based upon rudder controls.
  2. When starting the ATR-72 from “cold & dark” and following exact procedures for startup, the nose wheel will not respond to any control while trying to taxi.

I have confirmed the following:

  1. Blocks are off
  2. Brake is off
  3. Gust is off

I have searched Google and reviewed numerous videos and posts and cannot resolve this issue.

Can you please confirm that this is not a bug or advise on what I may be doing wrong?

Did you put the Condition levers in auto and made sure that both AC Wild generators and Hydraulics pumps are turned on before taxiing ?

the nosewheel need hydraulics, and the pumps for those run on AC Wild, which means that :

  1. Condition lever need to be in Auto so that NP is high enough (~70%) for the AC Wild generator to be online (While the DC generators runs off the gas turbine, the AC Wild generators runs of the propeller gearbox, and they need NP to be high enough before coming online)
  2. AC Wild generators needs to be turned on (don’t know if they are by default)
  3. Hydraulic pumps need to be turned on (by default, on Cold and Dark, they are NOT turned on)

Thank you. Can’t wait to give this a try!

If it can help, make sure you have no white lights on the top panel, white light = off

I want to thank you both for taking the time to respond to this issue. You are both correct and were instrumental in helping me solve this issue. How they failed to add this to the checklist is completely beyond me. I have struggled with this for over two weeks, and had just given this up as a loss.

It is members like both of you that make this forum great.

Again. My sincerest gratitude for your help.

To be fair, it’s supposed to be a memory item, so it won’t be in the in-aircraft checklist.

Also, usually, you are NOT supposed to have any white light before starting to move on the taxiways, since if you do, you missed something (on these aircraft, something lighted up on the panels = not normal)

That said, paper checklist will include it IRL from what I know
