Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• yes (not tested with the ATR since I don’t have it)

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• noticed the same with default aircraft too, both taxi & landing lights. Always seeing like a fog effect even in clear weather, minimum humidity (1)
@Eddrik84 : could you test with other default aircraft ?. If same result is confirmed, they would you mind to update your title to specify it happens with any aircraft ?

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• C172, clear sky preset:

I have the exact same problem with just about any aircraft with landing lights or taxi lights (i.e. all aircraft). It’s a horrible effect, poorly done. Not every flight condition at night is by definition in awfully foggy weather.

Crisp clear land features lose their detail at night, and my lights which are supposed to make things “easier” to see just end of occluding them in a grey haze. I don’t know who approves these changes.

From another angle:

Hi all,

Can those of you who were experiencing this issue please let me know if this is still persistent, or has it been resolved in SU2 or SU3 Beta for you?

Thanks

I’m still experiencing this on Xbox on SU3 beta 1.5.7.0 in pretty much all aircraft. Perfectly clear conditions but the landing / taxi lights have a light beam associated with them that you would normally only see in thick fog. Some aircraft are worse than others. For example, the A310 where you absolutely cannot use the takeoff taxi light setting if you want to be able to see the runway both in the air and on the ground

Thanks @Azlog. We may already have this logged under a different thread not specific to the ATR so I’ll see what I can find!

Issue is still there:
Live Weather
Also tested with clear weather preset, moving the humidity slider from 0 & 10: no impact (a bug report exists for humidity slider not working)

C208 over Africa desert, Live Weather, humidity 8.6%

Seems not aircraft related but more likely how the external landing/taxi lights visual effect is rendered at night.

Did you tried to turn off light shift in the graphic settings?

I was led to believe that there is a graphic setting to get rid of light beams - but not available on Xbox

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

You are right, that effect is produced if you have the “Light Shafts” option enabled (only pc users can access it):

If turned off, no fog effect visible:

If tuned on:

External view when turned off:

So not sure if it is the expected result when turned on (same effect on low/medium/high/ultra), maybe some tweaks are needed to avoid that unrealistic “fog” effect.
Also maybe should be dependent of the % of humidity in the air, or when flying through clouds it is when that effect is more visible. I am not an expert in light effects so will not make any affirmation.

That’s the offending option. Sure I had seen someone mention it before. It’s definitely very overdone as you need some pretty thick fog to see that kind of thing in real life

Thanks, this really helps for now. Switched off looks ok to me.
But from low to ultra - every setting seems to be of similar strength to me. And low seems to be already overdone.
