What’s up with developers having their addons stuck in the backlog for weeks or months, while we are flooded with low quality content?

Even Captain Sim is more quality than MScenery.

So many people ask this each week, and we never get an answer. Funny, isn’t it?

Mmm It’s called MONEY… They don’t care what is on the Marketplace just as long as it makes money. How many years ?

Hello @Nic727 and @FndrStrat06,

We have answered this question numerous times previously in prior Development Update blog discussion threads and in the Developer Livestreams. Functional testing of add-ons is the responsibility of each individual third-party developer, not Microsoft. The initial Microsoft Marketplace intake process is typically completed within a few business days of the developer submitting their product for intake. From there, it is then up to the developers themselves to complete testing of their own products and sign-off that they are ready to release.

If you’re wondering why it takes longer for higher quality add-ons to be released and it’s faster for lower-fidelity products, the answer is simple: it’s because more complex add-ons take longer for the developer to complete their testing whereas more basic add-ons can be tested by their developers faster.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

The backlog total is not correct again. Should be 481 (274+207), not 337.

pf i was hopping for the final release this friday. i think not .

The feedback snapshot is now two months old. Are you not able to update it at least once a month?

Respectfully, I don’t believe this is a straight answer. That’s probably why people keep asking, including myself. To be clear, I don’t think you’re lying, just that you’re being told to relay only what Asobo (or Microsoft) is willing to tell you.

The CRJ is probably the foremost example, so I’ll use that. The CRJ updates have been out on other stores for months. If it were simply a case of developer testing taking a long time (which implies that something is broken), don’t you think that other stores would also see delayed releases? Yet the opposite is true. There has been at least one update since version 2.0 dropped. The current version available from Aerosoft is 2.1.10.

It’s been too long. I just don’t buy that an outdated version is still being tested by the developer.

This makes total sense. But again, it’s been a really long time for V2 of the CRJ to be, “In testing with the developer.” It can’t possibly take this long to perform testing when subsequent updates are going out to other platforms.

But there is a problem though that developers who do little work can stiffle out all the competition.

Mscenery releases 2 planes a week. That means it takes them only 3 days to develop a plane. And yes, that means they are simpler so yes, they can be tested and turned around quicker. They have 68 planes in the 2024 aircraft category currently this week. Every other developer including Captain Sim are in the single digits (Captain Sim has 9). There are still 21 more weeks in 2025. That means New Years Day, 2026, there are going to be 110 planes by MScenery. No one is going to want to scroll through all that to shop in the ingame Marketplace.

As an example of how this is unfair to competition, lets look at sales each week. Several MScenery planes go on sale each week. Not their whole catalog. But maybe 10. Those 10 get prominently featured at the top of the list because they are on sale. They have 68 planes. They can rotate which planes are on sale each week so they are always at the very top of the page. They have flooded the marketplace, now they can manipulate prices so that their products are always at the top of the Marketplace and you need to scroll for a while to get to a competitor product.

Some might call that a “career mode” that works  but I agree that adding better filters (in both sims) would be very useful!

Why no development update inside this development update? Is only advertising for MScenery garbage, no development info at all.
