Aurora Borealis Fs2024

Dears ,

how do we see the northern lights on Fs2024? I have activated the live weather forecast when I fly over Norway, Sweden or Iceland. I use an app specialized on auroras, they appear in certain places but I don’t see them in the sim,

Thanks for your help

One of my first flights in msfs2024 had a layover at BIKF. I saw them, this was like a month ago however.

Went up and had a look the other day …they looked good!

No luck on my flight to Rovaniemi on Christmas Eve. May be too southerly?

If the northern lights in the sim are linked to live weather, rather than just some random appearance, then they should appear when there’s known displays. You can get apps for your smart phone that tell you if and when there’s likely to be a decent display of them.

Go to Prude Bay Alaska or Norway far north section. Make sure that you adjust your time in late October or early November. You should see them no problem.

I have found the best way of seeing the aurora in both the northern and southern hemisphere is a combination of the forecasting apps and the live weather replay mode.
Step1. Check the aurora forecast at:
https://www.gi.alaska.edu/monitors/aurora-forecast
When the KP index is high; such as 1/1/25 you will get a good light show in real life and in the sim.

Step2. With live weather active, wind the time back to the time the kp index was high. You will see a green aurora on the world map.

Step3. Start a flight in the area and double check the time, you might need to play around with exact time.

These screenshots were from northern Norway on 1/1/25. The next good day looks like 10/1/25. Good luck!
Hope this helps.

Yeah I noticed the live weather feature in the sim relies on the various sources for predicting the aurora that are available. There was a pretty decent display here in Scotland on the 1st of January and it was picked up by the sim pretty well.

Anyone had any luck in the last few days? I just arrived at KEF in the sim where aurora apps tell me I had a 95% chance of seeing aurora but nothing in the sim.

By any chance did you look up, like way up, overhead? Aurora sometime do not present on the horizon and if overhead, can be easily missed on the flight deck. Cheers!

had my eye out all the way from top of descent :frowning:
