:airplane: LOW & SLOW — TIGER MOTH: NORTHERN ENGLAND VINTAGE CIRCUIT

Aircraft: Tiger Moth Cruise: 65–75 knots Altitude: 1,500–2,500 ft Route: EGCC → EGNO → EGNL → EGNC Break: 15 minutes at EGNO Warton

LEG 1 — EGCC Manchester → EGNO Warton

Distance: ~33 NM Theme: Farmland climb‑out and industrial heritage

  • Depart Manchester to the west, keeping clear of heavy‑jet corridors
  • Settle into 1,800–2,000 ft as the city gives way to patchwork farmland
  • Expect light turbulence over the ridgelines north of the Mersey
  • Warton appears ahead on the coast, a historic RAF site perfect for a Tiger Moth arrival

+++ 15‑MINUTE BREAK AT EGNO WARTON +++

A perfect spot to regroup, stretch, grab screenshots, and enjoy the vintage atmosphere before heading toward the coast.

LEG 2 — EGNO Warton → EGNL Walney Island

Distance: ~20 NM Theme: Coastal dunes and low‑altitude shoreline flying

  • Track northwest along the coastline, keeping the Irish Sea on your left
  • Walney Island emerges as a long, thin strip of dunes and beaches
  • Ideal for a low‑and‑slow pass along the shoreline before joining the circuit
  • Optional: touch‑and‑go at EGNL to mark the midpoint of the event

Recommended: stay under 2,000 ft for the best coastal texture.

LEG 3 — EGNL Walney Island → EGNC Carlisle

Distance: ~40 NM Theme: Lake District foothills and rolling countryside

  • Depart Walney northeast, crossing the estuary toward rising terrain
  • The Lake District foothills provide gentle ridge‑running opportunities at Tiger Moth speeds
  • Expect shifting winds funneling through the valleys
  • Carlisle sits beyond the hills, a classic airfield with a vintage feel — perfect for a Tiger Moth arrival

Recommended: keep 1,800–2,500 ft for terrain clearance and scenic flow.

WEATHER

Broken clouds, 10–15 km visibility, light winds. Late afternoon light enhances the hills and coastline.

Had a blast in the Tiger Moth in this event as we did some formation flying and several loops along with paired takeoffs and landings. Looked great in a sky full of Tiger Moths.

Was a great show and bought a Tiger Moth en route to participate.

For the record any other newbie Tiger Moth pilots may I recommend this video that gives the secret sauce on how to get rid of the co-pilot and find the GPS!
