Aussie Group Flights Team - Swiss Alps: Sion to Courchevel

Join us on this scenic flight over the Swiss Alps departing Sion (LSGS) with many touch and goes and a couple of full stop landings as we make our way to Courchevel (LFLJ) in France. This area has been improved by the recent World Update 6 and is definitely worth a look.

Details to follow. Hope you can join us.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ …

Due to the issues we have experienced using the MSFS Discord, I have elected to create my own Discord Server.

If you haven’t already joined my Discord, you can click on the following link: Discord (note, this link is only good for a week from publishing).

When you connect with my server, read the instruction and leave a note so I can promote you to Member status.

Once you are a member, it will be easy to see where to go on the server as it is very simple to navigate.

Let me know if there are any issues.

IMPORTANT: If you want to fly on Friday, you must be set up before we start, I won’t be setting people up at the last minute. They will have to wait until the following week to use the Discord server.

Hope this all makes sense. At least we won’t be plagued with the PTT requirement or people dropping in to cause issues.

Regards, Paul

I’d like to recognise CharlieFox27632 for providing the inspiration for this weeks event.

Hi,

I organised four community flights beginning of this year and am thinking to create another „Tell Tours“ set anytime soon.

What kind of issues did you encounter? Push-to-talk was a requirement since ever, AFAICR. So were there other (technical or non-technical) issues with the official MS FS2020 Discord voice chat server?

Aircraft: Suggest any GA Aircraft.

IMPORTANT: In the interest of keeping it REAL, please refrain from selecting inappropriate aircraft, like airliners. This only detracts from the immersion of the flight.

Seeing Aircraft Correctly: You need to do two things to ensure you can see the other pilots in the event and see them in the aircraft they selected.

Select the same server: To do this, proceed as follows:

From the Welcome Screen, click on your Username (top right)
From the list of servers, under Servers, select WEST USA

Turn off Generic Planes: To do this, proceed as follows:

From the Welcome Screen, click on OPTIONS
Click on GENERAL
With TRAFFIC selected, scroll down to the last option and set USE GENERIC PLANE MODELS to OFF

Turning off Crash/Damage:

Select Options/Assistance
Expand Failure & Damage
Disable Crash Damage
Disable Aircraft Stress Damage
Disable Engine Stress Damage
Accept the changes

Voice Room: My personal Discord server is used for voice comms. If you haven’t already joined my server, click on the below link to request access. I will set you up as a Member so you can access the server. Ensure you do this prior to the flight, as latecomers will need to wait for the next event.

Link to join the Voice Room: Discord
Note: this link is only valid for 7 days from posting.

Weather/Time: We will set the time to 8am. This will allow us to fly in daylight and choose CLEAR Weather, so can enjoy the scenery, if the REAL weather is poor:

From the World Map view, click on Flight Conditions (upper right of screen)
Click on All Players, Live Traffic, Custom
Under Weather and Time, select Clear Weather and move the time slide bar to show 8:00am.
Click Close and Fly from the World Map view.

We can start departing from 10:00z. There will be no need for official radio calls. Lets just have some fun taking in the scenery and the social aspects of the event.

Turning on Points of Interest

Select Options/Assistance
Expand POI
Set Landmark Markers to ON
Set City Markers to ON
Set Airport Markers to ON
Accept the changes

Turning on Name Tags (This will assist you in following the group if you get disoriented):

Select Options/GeneralTraffic
Set Show Traffic Nameplates to On
Accept the settings

Attention: I’ve flown this route last night and will be making some minor changes to the instructions, so ensure that you redownload the Flight Card after I’ve updated it later today. Some airports won’t support a Touch and Go but more a Stop and Go to fly out the way you entered. One airport isn’t even modelled, so we will overfly it.

All changes have now been made. Three airports need to be departed from the same same direction you landed, due to terrain or shortness of the runway. One airport LFVA(Glacier Lombard) doesn’t exist as an airport. You can spawn there but you are simply placed on a rock with no hint of any airport, which is different to how it is depicted in Little NavMap. I was going to avoid it but the terrain is so interesting, I decided to overfly it.

Just a reminder to join with my new Discord Server so you have voice support on Friday and all subsequent events for Aussie Group Flights.

So far I have requests from about 29 pilots, so I suspect there are many more out there, as we typically have up to 45 in the event.

Event reminder …

Sadly I was unable to connect to your discord server. Disappointed to miss out, looked like a nice flight plan.
:sob:

I think I remember setting you up on the Discord server. Many more events to come. Look forward to you joining us.

Thank you!
Hopefully see you in the skies…
