The Pacific Climax (The “Inner Japan” Run) — August 1945
-
Aircraft: B-25 Mitchell & P-51 Mustang Escorts
-
Operational Profile: High-to-medium altitude formation flying and bomber escort.
-
Background: This mission marks the final days of the Pacific conflict. Because a native B-29 is currently unavailable in MSFS, we are utilizing the B-25 to fly the “Inner Japan” leg of the historic atomic bomb missions. We depart Iwakuni, fly over Hiroshima, and recreate the real-world diversion to Nagasaki due to cloud cover over the primary target at Kokura.
-
Flight Notes: Cruising speed is 160–180 KIAS. Cruising altitude will be held at 15,000 feet for Leg 1 and 12,000–15,000 feet for Leg 2. P-51s should maintain close cover slightly above and to the sides of the B-25 flight.
