I think they have chosen a few smaller airports that you normally wouldn’t buy. Longreach will be nice as it has the history attached. I have half done a basic YMML on flightsim.to as a tide over a while ago but would have been nice if they did it. My guess is it’s being saved for a big developer. Also interesting they didn’t show off Melbourne CBD in the trailer with ORBX having previously put their landmarks pack on ice….
Pretty stoked my local airport YSHL is one of the four airports modelled. Can’t wait to fly around Oz with this new update!
great, most of our guesses confirmed except for Gold Coast and Melbourne Intl airports. Must confess I’m totally Greek to those four announced ‘airfield’ type of airports.
otherwise, I’d agree, almost the best WU ever, not sure if i’m biased because I especially am in love with Aussie terrain and Oceania, in general.
Overall it’s an extremely good update. I have checked the data this afternoon. It’s truely amazing.
To those watching from the associated Microsoft Team, on behalf of the 35 - 40 contributors I want to say a very sincere thank very much, from our humble thread…
I was disappointed to see that cairns airport wasn’t mentioned. My bet is orbx want’s it for a paid scenery. Still im think i am going to be very pleased with this WU.
I’m disappointed that there is no YBCG as well. I figured if they were going to have the Gold Coast scenery, they’d at least have the airport. Also surprised the Gold Coast isn’t Photogrammetry.
My only other wish would have been YBAF (Archerfield Airport), but it’s tiny so I can live with it. Hopefully the Gold Coast scenery will be good though. Currently it sucks.
I wonder if Photogrammetry for Sydney and Brisbane will break the Orbx and FlyTampa sceneries . I’ve been happy with both.
I’m with everyone here though that it’s a little underwhelming about the airports. I wonder if the Gold Coast is considered photogrammetry based on it’s vicinity to Brisbane.
Gold coast It is photogrametry already
Oh ok… cool. Still wish they were planning YBCG though Flying from YBBN to YBCG would be so much more fun if the airport was custom. I’d pay for it even. It just isn’t that good presently.
Sad they are not included in WU:7, I got the feeling both Melbourne Intl and Gold Coast are in line to be rendered as payware by Orbx. Might be their business strategy.
BTW, Gold Coast has already been vanilla PGed since initial release and now will extend through Brisbane.
In fact, the „Maps“ app comes installed by default since Windows 10 (home edition anyway - not sure about pro / enterprise editions).
Simply enter „maps“ in the Windows start menu - but psssst! Only few people know about it
For the few people who are still disappointed, just go flying in Indonesia for a week. You’ll have the biggest smile when you return to Australia.
Can someone list the airports, I didnt catch a couple of them.
YLRE - Longreach
YSHL - Shellharbour
Didn’t catch the other two.
According to maps app Gold Coast and Brisbane won’t connect, not even close. (Photogrammetry)
Which is a shame.
Brisbane has done a huge area but not so much to the south, Kessels road is the line and Ipswitch motorway to the south west.
You are correct in that GC was already done, i thought oh maybe it’s updated, nope still ancient, tram UC and no Shard at broadbeach.
Melbourne if Maps is anything to go by, is terrible quality.
Sydney is a very small area done, cutting off parts of the inner city even.
Perth looks good, Cairns and Townsville cover most outer suburbs, heck they even did Kuranda up the tablelands west of Cairns
Townsville especially is high quality, one shame is they skipped Maggie Island.
Mackay is decent high quality coverage as well, even out over the harbor.
I had bought YSHL Shellharbour(YWOL Wollongong) for FSX from Orbx(YWOL Wollongong Airport for FSX & Prepar3D) and it was worth the money. I wrote to Orbx back on 26 November 26 2021 asking when they were going to release it for MSFS so I’m pretty stoked to learn that they are releasing it for free for MSFS with World Update 7: Australia.
YSHL Shellharbour has to be one of the most important regional airports there is full stop. YSHL recently won an award Shellharbour Airport wins Small Regional Airport of the Year.
YSHL is home to HARS (Historical Aircraft Restoration Society) Aviation Museum and I hope their many planes get modelled as well. Even John Travolta Donates his 707 to HARS.
YSHL is home to Australia’s largest annual airshow Wings Over Illawarra which is a 2 day event and usually well over 30,000 people attend each year.
YSHL is home to the one and only Flight Simulation event to be held in Australia Oz Flight Sim Expo which is also held annually.
Every Australia Day Historic craft take to Illawarra skies this Australia Day taking off from YSHL.
Every Anzac Day HARS pilots to perform flypasts in vintage planes on Anzac Day taking off from YSHL.
Taking off from YSHL you’ve got Lake Illawarra as well as the Illawarra Escarpment to look at, you have got the largest motor vehicle importation terminal in NSW which is Port Kembla to look at, and it’s only a short flight north to YSSY Sydney Airport. As you are flying north to Sydney keep a lookout for the Sea Cliff Bridge located on the coast between Scarborough railway station and Coalcliff railway station.
I think Impulse Simulations are working on Coffs Harbour.
have to say the lack of YMML is a great disappointment, given that there’s no third party alternative.
I was going to say out of the 4 picked YSHL is the best.
It’s good, but your opinion doesn’t make it the best, plenty of other people will argue their local airport should be done and a majority of people either live near, use or go through the 5 busiest airports in the country and might want those.
However it is good to hear someone is very happy about the inclusion.
Currently doing the last hops in Indonesia, the plan is after the release of WU7 to fly from Den Pasar to Broome and then I’ll probably Caravan my way counterclockwise around the country. Which airports should I definitely visit?
Count me in as very disappointed on the list of airports. I’m sure the most used are the major airports in the state capitals, and that was very much what I was hoping for.
It would seem to make most sense to focus on the ones with the most traffic, unless I guess you are looking at ORBX trying to sell these separately which is perhaps the case. Personally I’m never going to spend $20-30 on a single airport, and I’m sure many others won’t either - so that just leaves everyone else lacking. I guess these small airports in the middle of nowhere are much easier to model than large airports, so it seems a cost thing again.
I will at least take a trip to YSHL as that sounds interesting. I’ll probably fly the spitfire from YTEM, would seem quite appropriate!
