Well, that’s just my idea… I’m not a developer either, so I don’t know how to do it… Hahahaha…
I can’t believe nobody talks about the dark handcrafted airports in 2121.
Even after UK update, my EGLL is 95% dark with no lights on apron gates and parking positions.
No one else experiences this?
And can’t see anything near a gate. Good luck trying to park at night…
Yeah it’s frustrating. Ive given up on night flights.
Yes. Everybody. Search free third party addons where lights are added ; there’s a lot, EGLL too.
This has not even been marked on the bugs/wishlist. However, I found this:
That is actually working fine. It´s a work in progress, with the author adding airports on a per request basis. Tested and works perfect!
Shouldn’t need a mod for this, it needs a fix.
Definitely needs fixing, this isnt FS2004. Would love an explanation from Asobo
I think the issue here is that, for most AI generated airports, they don’t have floodlights distributed around the terminal as part of the generated process. The handcrafted custom airports however are completely different story. Because they have the ability to set floodlights to any place in that airport. It gives them better visibility. But since the AI generated process don’t do that, the floodlights are missing, and the apron is dark.
The quick solution that I can think of here is by assigning 1 tower of floodlight to every parking layout in the airport. So all the parking spaces are lit. It can also be set to a specific type of parking. For sample a Ramp GA Small wouldn’t have floodlights, but anything else would.
I put in a Zendsek for this very same wish a few months ago.
Besides not being able to see the staff that are receiving us via GA planes (think propellers), there really should be a mandatory light over the fuel stations. Those are kind of “splody-things” and I think OSHA or the FAA has a couple of rules about that in place.
That’s it… MSFS 2020 is not ISO certified!
Honestly, I don’t know if any one of those agencies is involved in lighting at airports, but you get my point.
One should believe that the developers felt this issue was such an immersion/realism breaker that they addressed it before release, or at least imminent after.
Strangely, no…
It makes no fun to explore the world after sunset because orientation at airports is almost impossible in the dark. Are we suppose to either buy new airports at the marketplace or start editing some 37.000 airports ourselves?
I don’t think this will be implemented until the gateway scenery system.
It’s an immersion breaker and makes taxi and parking at night really hard, but it’s what we have.
One of the bigger issues with the game. Should be high prio.
This and also adding some basic lights for the airport models like hangars and terminals. In combination that would make default airports at least usable and more realistically looking from above as well.
Autogen airports are too dark especially on ramps and aprons during the night
Still there are no default apron/gate night lighting at the default airports.Default airports in the sim are pitch dark at night. It completely destroys the realism and it becomes impossible to navigate to parking gate/ramps during night time. When can we expect to see some generic night lighting implemented at the default airports ?
airports don’t have any ramp floodlights or basically any light besides taxiway/runways
almost impossible to taxi on apron at night
a solution would be to make a batch file or a script file to add a floodlight object to every parking spot so that in can be easily apply as a batch to all AI-generated airports as the parking spot objects are pretty much standardised across all of it without updating them one by one. (at least for all major and medium airport or regional airport)
I think it is something simple to do for Asobo engineers
Did you submit this to Zendesk? If so, what is your ticket #?

Yep, that’s true. I was about to write a post in reference to this issue.
Hard agree.
When I first got the game and and done a few night flights in and out of Kansai, the first thing I said to myself was “have these people ever seen an airport after 6pm before” lmao
I am not a game dev by any means but it’s super hard for me to believe having just light boxes sequentially generated around an airport would be hard to do?
I’d even take having light from the moon to illuminate right now, these power cut airports are tragic

I agree. Some of these airports are way too dark in the base sim.
Easy way to make auto gen airports lit is just stick basic lighting on top of buildings pointing to the apron. I’m sure that’s easy to code?
