Autonomous Gliders cannot start at a parking spot

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Both Stemme 12 and Taurus M are classified as gliders.
For gliders that need help getting started, it makes no sense to start from a parking position. Therefore, the flight usually begins on the runway, hooked in for aero-tow or winch launch.

The Stemme 12 can only take off independently “Autonomous”.
If you select a parking position to take off in the cold and dark, you will still be placed on the runway. The brake blocks and protective covers are active. Although the condition is correct, the position on the runway makes no sense. Therefore, the Stemme should be classified as an aircraft in order to be able to start at the selected parking position.

The same applies to the Taurus M, which can be towed. If “Autonomous” is selected here, it should appear in the parking position. When winching or aero-tow on the runway with the propeller retracted.

Therefore, I would not differentiate between gliders and others, but everything goes to the parking position unless winch launch or aero tow is selected.
Since an Airbus or others are not capable of aero tow or winch launch, they are automatically classified as “autonomous”.
Then this problem should be solved.

Thanks for a correction.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

  • select the Taurus (listed under airplane) or the stemme (listed under glider)
  • select the autonomous version
  • select a parking spot position
  • glider is spawned on the runway C&D with chocks and pitot cover

Logic if “Autonomous” is selected should be the same than for aircraft:
If starting at a parking spot: cold & dark
If starting on the runway: inside the cockpit, no chocks and covers, engine ready

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Hallo,
Thank you for the additional explanation.

Still not fixed with SU2, neither in the new SU3 beta. Please fix this.

According to the original manual, the Stemme is neither authorised for F-towing nor for winch launching. It is therefore correct that only the autonomous launch can be selected here in the FS.
The problem is that, as a rule, there are no gliders that cannot be towed. Therefore, in this case it would be a good idea NOT to list the Stemme as a glider.
The programmer only needs one click to change this.
Then the Stemme would be a normal aeroplane with a piston engine and everything would be fine.
But this is probably very difficult to understand.

Let me provocatively write ‘SU3?’ in 6 months?

As someone who only flies gliders, you have to suffer a lot here.

In the past I flew Glider and Motorglider.
In the Discus 2C, the motor is an auxiliary motor that requires little space due to today’s possibilities. This means that the Discus can still be towed. This also applies to all gliders that can fold up their engine behind the cockpit. These are all small auxiliary engines.
A motorised glider usually has the engine installed at the front and because this design takes up more space, people can sit next to each other.

High-performance motorised gliders such as the Super Dimona are generally not towed, but can pull others. In terms of gliding capability, however, they cannot keep up with light gliders.

The Stemme is an exception, which makes it so unique. Like the Dimona, it is not capable of towing, so I would generally categorise this type of aircraft as a powered aircraft with a piston engine.

PS Maybe a little explanation will help instead of just complaining.

Seems issue has been fixed (in SU4). Using the airfield with the Pipistrel & Stemme, can now spawn at a parking spot:

@RoterBaron63 : is it fixed for you too ?

Yes, thank you for asking. With SU3, I noticed that you can start from anywhere on the ground in your desired mode. This has simplified things considerably. Especially in multiplayer, when there are few or no parking spots available, you can choose an empty starting location without any overlap.

A great improvement.

Cheers Ralf
