AVA vs Standard Thrustmaster Base

Those that have tried both … I’m wanting your opinions on if the new AVA base is a significant step up or not worth the change.

I’ve had the standard TM base (the round one) for a cpl years now, works great for GA but now getting into helicopters so don’t like the strong resistance that big spring in the TM standard base provides … want something lighter and easier to make fine adjustments. I understand that the AVA base with the Aero cams and light springs does the trick … Yes? No? You opinions please!

I have changed mine for the AVA and i love it. You can adjust it as you want and then the resistance in the middle can be taken away completely. It works great.

You can follow this video to remove the centering spring in the old base. I have used that modification for years as it worked better for helicopters (it made the centering softer) but at the end I decided to move to a VKB Gunfighter Ultimate stick with adjustable dampers some time ago. Also metal construction but lighter, more precise and versatile than TM.

Thrustmaster design was good 20 years ago as few alternatives existed at that time, but definitelly nowadays there are much better designs in a similar price range. AVA could be good for sure (I never owned it) but the stick is still the old brick.

Cheers

I know and i have changed black spring for the green one but you still keep feeling the centre position. With the AVA you can adjust that perfect and adjust it very easy for every plane. I have the F18 stick and there is nothing wrong with it, it is heavy and very solid.

geloxo … thanks for the vid. I did do this but frankly found the stick to be a bit too limp for me … tried some washers as well, still very similar.

That said my new AVA arrives tomorrow!

Thanks to all for the comments :+1:

How much lighter is the centering force with the green spring vs the original spring? Quite noticeable or not so much?

For me it was still to much. But as far as far as i know they have recently brought out another lighter one.
