As I was flying the Waco on my previous flight, I wondered what it would take to cross the Channel. Unfortunately, the glider function in MSFS only allows one to be towed to 3,000 ft, so for this flight I started airborne over Harringe Airfield (EGIQ) and immediately slewed up to 12,500 ft.

Here we are over Harringe. The French coast in the distance is obscured by clouds:

Crossing the coast. I’m maintaining a stready 500 fpm descent at 60 mph:

The French coast at about half-way across the Channel:

The White Cliffs of Dover behind me:

I’m aiming for Cap Gris-Nez, the closest point on the French coast. At this point I’m not sure I’m going to make it:

At 1,600 ft. It’s going to be close:

Made it - but barely. I landed - rather ungracefully as I stalled out about 10’ above the ground where the road does a “U” turn & then slid down the hill, coming to rest pointing back from whence I came. Still, at least the aircraft is in one piece!

Been loving this thread, evertime I’ve tried this bird there’s been no cockpit, I’ll have to give it another go

Edit, should of read the next post regarding the cockpit bug

I’m discovering this bird. Thought I would air her quirks and pretty good interior for an aviator addition.

I created an entire topic for flights in the Latecoere 631 here:

My last journey in the aircraft was a 13-hour, 2,123 NM trip spread over over 9 legs.

How did you fly the Mriya?

There’s a logged bug report stating that this aircraft is unflyable.
Ctrl+E and no autopilot from Ukraine to Berlin in external view?
Did you compare the exterior textures between MSFS and MSFS 24?
There’s significant texture degradation in MSFS 2024 compared to the Mriya in MSFS 2020.
In the cockpit, many switches only load when you get very close to them and disappear again when you sit back down in the pilot’s seat. Also, you can’t see which systems are currently active during the day because you simply can’t see the illumination of these lights during the day, and at night they’re completely overexposed.
The exterior lighting and exhaust visualization are also broken. The autopilot is broken, and TICAS is broken. Almost everything is buggy compared to the 2020 Mriya.Did you map all six engines to one axis during your flight?

What I’m trying to say is that if you approach the new sim with the same expectations you had when flying the Mriya in MSFS 2020, then the aircraft is absolutely unflyable.

I can’t recall - the flight was back in December. I rarely use the autopilot and I’m pretty sure that the flight - like all the flights in the Aviator aircraft - was hand flown from within the cockpit. I did not own this aircraft in 2020 so cannot compare the 2024 version to the 2020 version.

That’s a known bug in 2024 & affects a number of the default MSFS aircraft.

No, I have the the portside engines mapped to one throttle axis and the starbord engines mapped to a second throttle axis.

w.r.t. expectations, I upgraded to the Aviator Edition approximately a year after the release of 2024, so was aware of the bugs that had been reported by users, and knew that there would be issues. With the release of some fixes for some aircraft on December 4th, I thought that the aviator aircraft would continue to get some attention over time - and indeed, five will be re-released as 2024 native aircraft in tandem with the release of SU5, with more to follow in future AAUs.

So, if I can’t see the buttons in the cockpit, can’t see the selected systems, and the autopilot isn’t working on a large airliner, then that thing stays grounded, and I would never even consider calling it flyable. I flew the Mriya a lot in MSFS 2020 and was especially looking forward to this Aviator Edition aircraft, the aircraft that, more than any other, represents MSFS 2024.

I was devastated when I first tested it in FS24 and immediately submitted a bug report. But nothing has been done about it to this day. It’s outrageous that the Aviator Edition is still being sold and that they’re even releasing more Famos Flyers and Local Legends instead of fixing the old ones first.

I am hoping they fix the aviator planes in the aau releases. We are getting 5 updated this month hopefully. Long may it continue that the actual machines we use IN the sim to see all the scenery, start getting fixed.
