Avionics and lighting in aircraft becomes way too bright during certain time of day

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
At certain times of day (in this instance - during sunrise) the avionics and lighting in aircraft becomes way too bright and “bloomy” even at reduced PFD, ND and ECAM brightness. This gradually gets fixed as time progresses and outside lighting changes.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
A321 (but might be affecting other aircraft too)

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
I don’t have any mods/addons that affect lighting. Just a few liveries and airports.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
It has happened a few times now.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

It might a bit difficult to reproduce since it only happens under specific lighting conditions.

  1. Load into a flight at early sunrise.
  2. Check avionics and aircraft lighting.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
Not relevant

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
No.

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?
GPU: 3060ti

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
CPU: AMD 5600X
RAM: 32GB

• Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• On Cessna Longitude / Airbuses and pretty much every glass cockpit plane I tried.
In the end of the day when too bright, I can adjust PFD/MFD lights with knobs. But soon after, the fame is decreasing the instruments lights forcing me to set again to 100% brightness PFD/MFD.

Internally MSFS2024 display lighting depends on the “time of day” variable. There are 4 of them:

This will return an integer value representing the approximate time of day where:

  • 0 = dawn
  • 1 = day
  • 2 = dusk
  • 3 = night

At this time, at dawn/dusk when its not night yet (or day) and the “mode” hasnt switched to the respective “night” (or “day”) mode… its feels like night, but the displays are still in “day-mode (or night-mode)”
It seems there is no smooth transition between them or its an 'around-the-clock" global “min/max” setting … in daylight they can be brighter than during night time (as it is not needed to be such bright as during day)… but, this doesnt make sense … my cell phone has a 0 to 100 brightness setting, and the value is the same during night or day… its not “brighter” on 100 at day (or-vise-versa in night)…

• Displays at night seem to behave inverse to the actual lighting needs. See these screen shots of the 408 at night. The first shot shows the displays with their brightness knob set to “Day” or brightest. The second shot shows the displays with their brightness knob set at their minimum brightness.

The same thing happens to me with the Fenix A320! The screens are too bright and when you adjust the knob the intensity goes down but after a short time the brightness returns to its maximum splendor.

This happens in every plane, default or not. Surely this cant be the intended logic, as when the sim decides its time, it will literally just instantly dim the displays back to normal, to a proper brightness level. Please fix this logic asobo, its beyond annoying at this point.

Great comment, i hope they look at this and rethink their implementation, because in the current state, we are fiddling with the display brightness constantly and its super jarring when you are on final and about to land, the entire avionics either dim or brighten to the point you cant see anything on the displays.

•Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
•The problem occurs with any aircraft in the simulator, both default and third-party ones.
It’s more noticeable in aircraft with digital avionics due to the large screens, but the sudden brightness variations also affect the backlighting of buttons and any analog instruments.
It seems like a sort of external ambient brightness compensation based on the time of day, which instantly adds or removes a brightness offset from those set, so it is always possible to adjust the brightness of the various elements but in a completely different range from the previous one.
This behavior is extremely annoying, especially when flying during dawn or dusk
