Brief description of the issue:

There are confusing and, apparently, incorrect labels for the various fuel tanks on the Placard, selector knobs & Weight & Balance sheet. They do not correctly correlate.

Selector knob “Main” (Placard label: “Mains 452 Each”) are drawing from W&B sheet: “Right Outer Tank 226 gal” yet placard states “Inboard Aux. 226” That is three different names and plumbed to an incorrect fuel tank

Selector knob “Outb’d Extra” (Placard label: “Outboard Feeders 228 Each”) are drawing from W&B sheet: “Right Feeder Tank 228 gal”. That is three different names.

Selector knob “Inboard Extra” (Placard label: "Inboard Aux 226 Each) are drawing from W&B sheet: “Right Inner Tank 452 gal”. That is three different names and plumbed to an incorrect fuel tank.

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

Looking at the Fuel Quantities Placard, note the labels and quantities:

  • Mains 452
  • Outboard Feeders 228
  • Inboard Aux 226

Open Weight & Balance sheet. Set all fuel tanks to 100% full. Note the full tank values. Correlate the tank names with the placard tank names. Note they do not match. Leave W&B sheet open.

  • Set Engine 4 fuel tank selector to Main. Start Engine 4. Open Engine 4 throttle mid-way to increase fuel consumption. Observe W&B sheet and note quantity of “Right Outer Tank” decreases.
  • Set Engine 4 fuel tank selector to Outb’d Extra and note quantity of “Right Feeder Tank” decreases
  • Set Engine 4 fuel tank selector to Inboard Extra and note quantity of “Right Inner Tank” decreases

Additionally, note all of the different names/labels used that do not match one another.

100% confirmed. Without agreement on tank names between the W&B tab and the fuel valves, it’s very difficult to know what tank you’re really using. Also, the fuel plumbing in general doesn’t match the contemporary model of the B-17, which is where the whole wing assemblies, and thus the fuel tanks, came from.
