I have checked across the recent forum questions but can’t find a similar request but apologies if I have missed a similar posting in advance.
I recently had to rebuild my DVD version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. It took ages and I have been reviewing what led up to the crash and wanted to take some advice.
I have a Dell PC running Windows 11 on a 1TB SSD C: drive.
Because MSFS2020 is so large, I have installed the Community and Official folders on my 2TB SSD D: drive.
And everything works really well.
However… recently, following an large update, MSFS2020 produced an error message that I hadn’t seen before. I tried evrything to get it to work but with no success. In the end, I rebuilt my machine from scratch and all is good now. I ran the MSFS2020 update again and everything works well.
I have been trying to work out what could have gone wrong as I really don’t want to have to rebuild my PC again and then it occurred to me that, every month or so, I retsore my complete C: drive using AOMEI. Once it is retored, I apply all of the windows 11, office 2021, DCS, MSFS2020 and IL2 updates and take a new security copy to enable me to restore to that point in the future when new updates need to be applied.
And this got me thinking about the the possibility that some of my C: drive MSFS2020 files may have been updated since my last backup and the retore that I then did to enable me to apply all of the updates since the last backup may have left me with C: drive MSFS2020 and D: drive Community / Official differences and that might explain the crash.
So, the question that I have is, when I create a backup of my C: drive ready for the next restore, are there any other files that I should be backing up that are not on the C: drive to ensure that all MSFS2020 files remain correct ?
Apolgies if this question either has been asked before or sounds a little confusing but I’d really be grateful for any guidance / advicxe from friends and colleagues on the forum.
All the best
