I have an LG Nanocell 90… It has both VRR and AMD Freesync Premium built into the game optimizer.
Although both were on by default, I turned off AMD freesync (and left VRR to remain on).
Series X + VRR + HDR10 + 4k/120hz is producing very smooth frame rates, however the entire screen flickers like there is a giant candle behind it…
This issue is only present in MSFS, no other media or games, and its extremely uncomfortable to look at.
I have tried toggling everything under “Video Modes” in the Xbox’s settings with no result. The flicker goes away when VRR AND Freesync are both on, but frames and picture quality take too big of a hit for it to be worth it, and I dont believe two different VRR methods should be enabled at the same time.
Does anyone know any methods on how to eliminate the VRR flicker?
I had the same issue. My monitor is a 48 inch Gigabyte AORUS FO48U OLED panel.
I’ve only had it for a week, but here is how I eliminated the flicker, which was very noticeable during night flights.
Mind you I don’t run MSFS on XBOX, but rather PC, so I’m not sure if the XBOX version gives you the option to enable/disable vsync, or lock at 20/30/60 fps. If it does give you these options, here is how I solved the issue on my end:
Make sure your LG monitor/TV is running at 120 fps, Enable VRR and freesync in the TV settings. In the Sim menu, enable vsync, and select the sim to run a@ 30fps. Don’t worry- the sim will lock itself at 60fps,even though you selected 30.
I know it is strange but that is my experience so far having run the sim with both a 60 hz monitor and now a 120 hz monitor. On my 60hz monitor, 30fps in the sim settings with Vsync enabled, means the sim will not exceed 30FPS. 60FPS in the settings means it won’t exceed 60.
However, with a 120hz monitor, 30fps in the settings, means 60fps. If you set it to 60 on a 120hz monitor, it will exceed 60fps. And there is when flicker happens. VERY noticeable during night flights!
At first, I thought it was my new OLED monitor, but after trying other titles with VRR and Gsync enabled, I did not notice any abnormal behavior right up to the monitor’s 120hz refresh rate.
If the XBOX settings allow the aforementioned adjustments give it a try. Besides there is literally no good reason to allow the sim to run at more than 60fps anyway.
Thank you for the input. Unfortunately, within the sim, the ONLY graphics setting is “HDR on or off”.
We have no ability to fine tune anything else in the game and its absurd that they treat the xbox players like children in this way. Shame on them. If we were able to lock or limit our frames via the game, I could fix the issue.
My TV has VRR and Freesync options. I didnt not think i am supposed to use both…
Via our Xbox’s settings, we can downgrade to 60hz, or turn VRR off but thats about it.
This is the only game in my library that causes my TV to flicker with VRR on so its clearly an issue with how they’ve coded it.
