I would double check your settings for Auto-Mixture, or some other assistance setting that may be enabled. The Mixture Setting has always worked proper for me.
You can see in the image I provide, I set my right engine Fuel Flow to 6.8-GPH, while my left engine Fuel Flow is set to 19.1-GPH.
I find that to. I need to take the mixture well down to see a speed drop and then it moves very quickly to almost shutdown. I have assumed it is normal from what I have read.
Baron has a constant speed prop, so this is expected. Speed will stay constant until the engine is about to die, basically.
Thanks I thought so.
In addition to what CooganBear said, make sure you check the content manager for any available updates. You have to do those manually for some reason, so itâs easy to forget when the sim updates.
I promise you, I donât have the auto-mixture turned on, but I will try other planes to see if I can at least isolate the problem. But again, MANY people have reported this same problem so somethingâs going on.
Emptied community folder. Now Baron 58 operates according to flight manual. I have G1000nxi installed through MSFS store. No AI settings are activated. Individual engine mixtures can now be leaned by CHT in the MFD. Able to replicate engine failures on takeoff procedures including dead engine feathering (though no visual of feathered prop on this model). I can only assume that something in my community folder had been interfering. I have added back in the z-stats, REX real textures, Ambitious Pilot Pushback, and Navigraph data (but not included Navigraph in-game charts). Everything still works fine.
There apparently is a caveat to my last post. The Baron does show the feather visually if the standard engine failure 5 step protocol is followed. But, it wonât allow an air start after unfeathering. I tried just reducing throttle and then prop followed by ease into feather. Prop feathered and stopped. I experimented without touching the mixture after feathering. Moving the prop forward did unfeather the prop but would not start the engine using the protocol described in the manual. Tried every combination of power, mixture, prop even with an assist from the starter key, but no joy. The good news is that when feathered the Baron controls as predicted in the manual. It will even track with autopilot (only when feathered) but after a few minutes the power goes out. This should not happen as long as one good engine and respective alternator is functioning. Pulling the prop out of feather and increasing the power lever cycles the PFD back on intermittently but the MFD stays dark. Prop will not re-feather a second time. No power means no flaps nor landing gear. Not sure if there is a manual gear extension implemented. The crank is behind the seat in RW Baron.
I have successfully managed to restart a Baron engine just using windmilling (no starter.) Was probably with the SU9 Beta though (no idea if anything has changed in that area.)
Reference the manual gear extensionâŠ
Iâve done it in the 350i, so it might work in the Baron.
Thereâs an option in the controls setup to use âtoggle gear emergency handleâ.
For the 350i, once normal gear extension doesnât work, you can hit the gear lever (to unlock it) and then pump the emergency gear handle using whatever key/button/etc youâve assigned to the option above.
Not sure if it has pumped or just activated in the Baron, but if youâre interested, you might see if that works.
Regards
Never thought of that. Maybe I can assign a keyboard key for manual gear extension. The real issue, however, is the unexplained power outage after a short time flying with 1 engine feathered. But thanks for the suggestion.
Seems I recall being able to to do it also before SU10. Your procedure is the way it is supposed to work. Unfeathering should restart as long as mixture and throttle are set above cutoff. The manual does say that if no start then set mixture to cutoff and allow the prop to rotate a few times and the engine should start, adding mixture as the engine starts. It mentions that a quick burst of the starter may also work if all else fails. With this current upgrade, however, none of those remedies work. This needs to be fixed by Asobo because they have the code locked. I am about to try the last 350i mod because I know the props feather in that model (as your image verifies!).
