It IS a BATC issue because I’ve had many times when it doesn’t know runways exist at major airports using default scenery. They need to get this fixed. Don’t blame it on Asobo. That other program out there has no problems reading scenery.
I decided to try something different from BATC , just to compare and because I had 3 of my first 4 flights with BATC encounter things that stopped me from fully using it… frequencies not recognized or runways not recognized, etc. One time it just plain stopped.
I tried FSHUD. I can see the voices are less sophisticated, etc but I have to say that, for me, it works much better. I encountered no problems and it accurately guided me from gate to gate. I don’t use voice (yet) and the response choices doing it manually were easy and sufficient. The copilot option worked flawlessly if I didfn’t want to bother with radio communication.
I highly recomment it as an alternative and (again for me) very stable usable improvement over FS2020 default ATC.
