Beech 2000 Starship Released

Exactly. So nice to have something new and not the usual copy/paste Garmin stuff.

Amen. At this point there are dozens of aircraft in the sim all using G1000 or better avionics. They’re capable, reliable and functional. But they’re, frankly, a bit boring and interchangeable. When I do fly a plane with a Garmin, I prefer one where the other avionics and gauges are out front, with some small secondary/backup GPS unit tucked away only to be dug out when needed. Starship will fit the bill perfectly, combined with retro-future styling and still-amazing aerodynamic design.

I can’t wait to see how fast this thing flies. In theory it should be slower than the P180, with some people objecting and saying they should be pretty similar.

The Avanti has the performance edge, although the cruise speeds and service ceilings are very similar.

Fair enough, but its quite boring though. Its like flying a twin turboprop citation CJ4.
For those that want a different experience, the Starship will be a hoot.

It may not be that bad, for example I tried to overheat damage my engines in the Duke and it took me sitting on the ground with my engine firewalled, cowl flaps closed and the engine covers on (yes really, but maybe something was bugged here) for about 10-15 minutes before it failed. I just watched the engine condition decrease slowly until it died, no sudden catastrophic failures or anything, but again I may have just been lucky.

The point being while it is technically possible it likely takes a fair bit of mishandling to happen. Sticking to standard procedures will usually steer you right without too much effort.

Obviously I’ll be interested to see if this is actually the case here.

If the engines are simulated accurately there is usually a healthy safety margin built into the real thing. 10sec over redline doesn’t mean explosion, damage maybe but the engine should keep running. But do that consistently over time and you’ll shorten the lifespan considerably. PT6’s are some of the most reliable engines ever built and have operated in some of the most extreme conditions for an engine. Over torqued, ITT exceeded can require inspections before flying again but will usually get you home first

Agree, I like a mix of analog and digital (especially considering RNAV is almost a requirement for IFR flying these days). Very much looking forward to flying this anachronism.

Just to clarify this was the piston duke by the way, my cylinder head temp was well over redline for the whole time, I was hoping it would suffer some sort of component failure with the likelihood increasing steadily the longer it ran this way. It only started to act up around 30% condition, with the revs fluctuating up and down. Not exactly a critical existence failure at 0% situation, but seemed far too resilient overall

Ahh OK, yea that sounds like it would have lead to a more sudden stop than that. I’d be interested to know if a sudden failure can be accurately done in the sim or is it just rough running and a loss of power. If anyone could replicate it, my money would be on black square.

I hope somebody is able to make this mod. I don’t care for the music that much, but for the flamingo bobble I’m willing to pay!

A post was merged into an existing topic: Black Square Advanced Turbine and Piston Dukes

FYI, there is a topic about the Dukes here:
Black Square Advanced Turbine and Piston Dukes
Let’s keep this topic focused on the Beech 2000 Starship.

Thanks!

I think this is still on topic. Let’s remember that redlines are never exceed, but they’re usually marked conservatively, so it really depends how much over redline when a complete failure might come into play. Typically, they do want to design it so you can get home, but, if the issue occurs, it should be looked at when you get home.

It’s funny how sometimes the aircraft you never had any interest in becomes one of your favorites just because it’s so well done in MSFS. I’m sure a lot of people felt that way about the Comanche or even the Dukes.

I had planned on passing on the Starship. It’s not a plane I dislike or anything. In fact, the company I work for used to have three of them. They were gone before I started working there but it’s still cool and I’ve always had a little extra interest in them as such. We even still have the maintenance manuals on the shelf! It just wasn’t one I necessarily wanted to fly in the sim.

However, the sheer immersion factor of the CRT and gyro simulations with those ambient sounds creates a sim environment I want to fly in. The little extra detailed touches in the systems modeling will make flying it more engaging. I’m getting it for sure now.

You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes…

So when they say “June 19”, is that midnight EST the night before, or random time that day and could be any time zone?

Any experience based on past releases?

JustFlight is a UK-based company some likely sometime during the day, UK time. Based on a couple past purchases from them, I’d suspect the purchase option would become available by mid-morning U.S. Eastern time, but that’s just a guess.

Okay,
That last ‘Designed to change the Future’ video is the most emotional video I’ve ever seen for MSFS, and for any sim I’ve been interested in for that matter. It took me back to 6 years old and begging my father to take me to the flight line to watch T-38’s, P-3’s, KC-135’s, B-52’s, and anything else doing touch and go’s.
(At.least to me)

This addon had me when I heard the 3.5 inch disk spin up in a previous video. A sound I haven’t heard in a LONG time.

To an older guy like me, this last promotional video drew so much emotion in me from the very start with the 70’s synthesized promotional music and VHS/Beta video noise. It was like watching a U.S. Air Force promotional video of the Thunderbirds back then.
