Beech 2000 Starship Released

Great getting the update for free. The instrument glass issue has been fixed, but on Xbox (for me at least) the problem with dynamic registrations remains (zoomed-in partial registration on one side, nothing on the other).

Would be interesting to see if any other users experience this registration issue.

Got it when it was released, but didn’t fly it much back then. It was an amazing achievement and impressive in so many ways, but I didn’t really feel it. Now I came back to it and I really dig it.

Currently, somewhere over Congo, far away from many of the VLF and VORs, with the position uncertainty getting higher with every minute, so the plane is about to get lost. Great system.

And I didn’t even remember it has brake overheating simulation with a cool indicator on the EFB till I’ve tried landing on a short strip in Africa :smiley:

For people flying in MSFS2024, there is currently a bug (like with other BS planes) and the state will not be saved in most situations after the flight. Using “Restart” in MSFS menu after the flight will save it. Lost some Starship hours this way :slight_smile:

I hope they have OEM Part Number 39347-8001G in stock… :slight_smile:

Finally pulled this plane out of the hangar tonight, KPDX to KBOI. Still an awesome plane.

Don’t Beechcraft still charge to how long a part has been in storage :thinking::wink:

I think they sold all the starship parts to a private owner when they shut the program down. IIRC he got a smokin deal, basically a warehouse full of enough parts to keep the flying starships going for decades for $250k

And they got a write-off and stopped paying for storage and support, so, win-win for everybody…

Actually, something that I was wondering in all of the single pressurization controller wheel planes for years, but here it’s also a thing, and it got me thinking. When the descent checklist calls for setting the landing altitude for the pressurization… what is it actually expecting me to do?

It’s obvious if there are two wheels and one is the special one for landing altitude, but the indications on the single wheel don’t seem to be intended for landing altitude. Let’s assume the airport is in the most popular range, anywhere from 0 to 400 feet alt. Do I set the cabin altitude to zero, or do I set the whole wheel to the lowest possible setting, making the cabin altitude -1? And if the airport is at 6000 feet? Do I set it to cabin altitude 6000 (+500ft) feet, so pretty much the setting for cruise level 35k feet?

It’s probably an easy thing, but I’ve never figured it out and on most videos that I have seen people are just leaving it on the set cruise altitude, including real pilots flying in the sim.

I always set the outer/“bigger” number to my cruise altitude (+1000*) before takeoff. This gives the lowest cabin altitude possible while ensure the pressure differential between inside and outside is within the limits of the plane’s seals.

Then when descending, I set the inner/“smaller” number to the field elevation, so that the inside/outside pressures are near-equal and the passenger’s ears don’t pop when you open the doors after landing.

*(I’m not sure why most planes are +1000 cruise altitude…is it the Spinal Tap principle of the amp volume knob that “goes to eleven”? )

Before takeoff I set the cruise alt (inner number) to the cruise alt +500ft. on descent I set the cabin alt (larger outer number) to the landing field elevation (ie Aspen 7800ft) so as we descend the aircraft altitude at landing will meet the landing field elevation so we’d be able to open the doors on the ground

So landing altitude is cabin altitude on the wheel and the range between -1 and 0 is not used for that. Except for maybe when landing in places below sea level :slight_smile:

only once descending, depending on your destination you will most likely have a cabin alt way above your landing alt in cruise, but once on your way down you can set landing elevation +500ft

Why doesn’t the GNS430 work in this aircraft? The PROC page sends me back when trying to enter a STAR. It works fine in the Blacksquare Bonanza?

This plane is barely usable for me right now. You need the modern GPS in order to fly RNAV procedures.

Couldn’t you enter the points in the procedure manually? I haven’t used the 430 once while flying the starship. You can load RNAV procedures from the FMS or am I missing something?

You can enter waypoints manually, but in real life it is not legal to fly a procedure by doing so. You must select the named procedure from a database. Additionally, it’s not going to switch to the proper level of sensitivity or measuring RNP by manually entering them.

I recall loading RNAV procedures from the FMS, especially on the world tour I’m doing in the starship. It’s been a while though, so I may not be remembering correctly, was going to fly it yesterday but the MD-11 released and I got distracted.

Taking off and landing at high-altitude airports is an interesting experience regarding pressurization . Even though you’re climbing, your cabin will gradually pressurize (descend) after takeoff because you’ve set your inner dial’s altitude to your cruise altitude plus 1000 feet. This ensures the most comfortable cabin environment for the passengers. Before descending, you’ll set the outer dial’s altitude to the landing elevation plus 500 feet, causing your cabin to depressurize (climb) while your plane descends.

For your information:

The +1000 feet on cruise altitude is set to slightly reduce the cabin pressure differential compared to the maximum differential. This prevents the constant triggering of pressure relief valves and the annoying cabin pressure changes during cruise.

The +500 feet on landing altitude allows the cabin to fully depressurize before landing. The outflow valves automatically open when the wheels touch down, but any remaining pressurization at that moment results in a sudden POP in the passengers’ ears upon touchdown.
