Best bush plane?

That’s your definition but Wikipedia disagrees and even expicitly calls the Islander a bush plane.

As [bdshort550] Mentioned above the Fox is indeed a Verry nice Bush Plane Freedom Fox from Parallel 42 - Microsoft Flight Simulator

Here are some free ones that I use.

He specifically asked to stay away from glass cockpit.

LOL! You’re absolutely correct - I think by the time I got to submitting an answer, I was just looking at the subject line and had forgotten what the OP was actually asking! I just said what my favorite current bush plane is. So, given what the OP actually asked - I’d say one of the free GotGravel mods, and then the Wilga when that comes out. I haven’t tried the Zenith though.

If I could received 1€ for each Wikipedia approximation, I would be rich !
We definitely don’t have the same vision of what is a bush strip and an airfield, even a basic one.
Let’s leave it at that.

Edit: I just had a look at the Wiki list. It’s a mix between old planes, STOL planes and bush planes.
You can find the Avro Anson, the Staggerwing, Catalina, Goose, Lockheed Vega and Rutan Grizzly as bush planes !
Nonsense.

You’d be able to get an islander down in all of the landing areas shown in those videos… They even landed one on HMS Hermes back in the 60s without using arrestor cables. It’s a great STOL aircraft which will take a lot of punishment.

I would be glad to see a video with an Islander landing on strips in my vids !
Americans have landed a C130 Hercules on a carrier, this doesn’t mean it’s a bush plane.
One should not confuse STOL capacities with bush capacities.
A bush plane is necessarily STOL but being STOL is not enough to be a bush plane.
There are also flying fish, but they are not representative of the species.

Having watched your video I added this to my growing collection… it really is a superb bush plane and I’ll be flying it a lot. Good recommendation.

I’m probably gonna be shot for this but Carenado’s Cessna 170 is great if you just want a pure oldschool experience. Does have night flying (night lighting) capabilities as well

I know the preference for “no glass” but the Aviat Husky is good to. It’s a mixed type cockpit and has some basic gauges, you could keep the gps on the menu page or dial the brightness right down if you’d rather not look at it. Plus you get the flexibility of having a seaplane variant as well in the package.

Do you know for sure if Bagulo’s mods work with the C172 steam gauge variant?
He states some warnings in the mod description over at flightsim(dot)to, so I’m a bit hesitant to try them out.

Bagolu’s mods do include the steam gauge variant. The C172 Bush tail-dragger (steam variant) is one of my favorite planes.

It works but suffers some little bugs:

  1. It’s not possible to tune comm2 in the GNS430. Both GNS 530 & 430 share the same comm frequency.

  2. Weird texture when the plane is under ice condition. It seems the ice over the wings and the nose hasn’t texture.

  3. CG is not configure correctly in the tail drag version. In the loading panel it seems out of range, although the plane is perfectly flyable.

As Bagolu has claimed several times: all these bugs weren’t possible to fix because the classic cessna was encrypted. Now the files are open I hope he can solve them soon.

Thanks! Will definitely have look into it then.

I think you hit a tree there … just before touch down :yum:

To solve the CG issue, download the flight_model file you’ll find here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/16L5ThDycE7it4RiwzML-nrYneGUyMoq1/view?usp=sharing
Save your actual flight_model.cfg
Rename flight_model_C172_Taildragger.cfg in flight_model.cfg
Replace your actual flight_model.cfg with the new one
Don’t forget to regenerate the layout.json
You now have a correct Center of Gravity

Remember the challenge of landing at Lower Loon Creek in FSX ?
Here is the MSFS 2020 version.
It’s not as easy as it was in FSX !

Takeoff:
D47 Cougar Ranch runway 02
Fly no higher than the peaks around you.
The river will lead you to
C53 Lower Loon Creek runway 34

I will be glad to see a video of the same flight with an Islandair !

Just for fun, I found an aircraft carrier for the C172
It’s size is 72x10m.
Really fun and challenging.
