Well, I’m not a performing monkey, but seeing as you asked (and because you seem to think you could never land an Islander on anything but a tarmac strip), here’s my first ever attempt at landing anything there… Enjoy! ![]()
No SWS Kodiak mention!?
Good try. I would guess the Islander would need a gear check after that landing though.
There is a reason why the recommended landing runway is 16 and not 34, as you both chose to take.
Much easier to get into that strip.
While the Kodiak is an awesome bush plane, the OP prefers steam gauges, rather than glass.
great shot, what aircraft is it…it looks like the Zenith, where can I get the delivery…many thanks ![]()
They do include (if you already own the C172 classic in premium)
The L-19 Bird Dog has become one of my top favorite bush planes. Its flight dynamics seem spot on. The only thing that keeps it from my unqualified endorsement is the low quality interior textures. (And I could use a few more civilian liveries.)
I took a stab at that Lower Loon Creek approach in the Islander as well. With cargo.
Full disclosure: the landing in the video is my 4th attempt. The 1st one was successful too, but I touched down in the grass left of the strip and only stopped just before the drop at the end of the runway. My 2nd attempt was a go-around and on the 3rd try I centerlined the strip but went down the hill at the end.
Puuhh… what a ride!
I’m endorsing it, too. It’s got mega flaps and it comes with a Tundra version equipped with large bush plane tires.
Both variants have an easily hidden Garmin Aera, which is a nice feature if you sometimes want a small optional GPS for navigation.
I fly this plane everywhere and love it.
Can I just say, the editing on that clip is superb. Looks very realistic!
Yes it’s the Zenith indeed!
I haven’t flown it properly in ages but gave it a go briefly a couple weeks ago after hearing it somehow lands a little better. It offers a fairly luxurious and unique interior design for its time, it reminds me more of a boat, I’ve been on a couple boats that have a very similar aesthetic. I dunno why this one gets the hate that it gets, maybe because…Carenado? For some reason so many people find it easy to hate em.
How is the sound on that plane? Didn’t have great engine sounds at release.
Seeing this picture reminds me of the Drop Suspension… arguably one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a Bush Plane.
Be pretty cool having that plane drop the bike off and pick up some trails on it then fly off again ![]()
