Happy Easter everyone!
Running the non-super RTX2080 with the most recent driver. No issues.
There will never be a consensus, you’ll notice that with further replies ![]()
Up until recently the 457.30 was considered the best by many, but lately the new 465.89 has proven to be very capable.
Hello,
I moved your post to PC & Hardware, which is where discussions of drivers takes place.
The new driver 465.89
To dispense with all the hoo doo and woolly thinking, the correct answer is:
For any GPU, use the latest version of the correct driver.
Simple!
There were actually some issues with the most recent ones but mainly affecting VR experience.
I’d always give the most recent a try and if you really face issues, then check what other people’s experiences are.
The most recent driver right now seems to cause CTDs with P3D, so depending on the user it might be a bad driver to use - which makes a consensus pretty hard to achieve anyway ![]()
Yes, I take your point.
However, there are so many variables involved with the many hardware and software configurations out there, that to condemn any particular driver release before a known, general consensus is reached is simply meaningless.
Born - possibly of frustration - some folk appear happy to start pointing the finger on the most flimsy of evidence!
I suggest everyone uses the latest, correct driver version available for their particular
GPU. And should that driver subsequently prove to have issues, a consensus [not a few unqualified remarks on these 'ere forums] will soon develop.
Regards.
Totally with you ![]()
Maybe one more aspect to this topic:
Running an older card like the RTX2080 will most likely not require any driver updates to run fine as long as the driver doesn’t state explicitly changes related to your card or the game you’re playing.
So you should be fine with running 457.30 for a long time as well and you won’t miss out on anything in the foreseeable future.
I always keep my drivers up to date at all times. When there’s a new driver update, I update it straightaway.
There’s not really a driver specific for RTX 2080. All Nvidia GPUs released in the last 8 years, all use the same driver.
My RTX 2080 Super drivers are always at the latest version, and are working fine in FS for me. The only issues I had were performance issues prior to the latest FS patch (that nearly everyone was complaining about). Now that the patch is out, things are running smooth, the fans are quiet again, and I’m happy!
BTW… I do not use VR.
