Looking for a flight planner that will allow me to adjust ALL waypoint altitudes - is there one out there? Seems the ‘in built’ on in game doesn’t allow it (or I don’t know how to) and I can’t figure out how to do it on Little NavMap so…any suggestions?

IFR Route Analyzer - FlightAware (Works great for US Flights)
I believe that MSFS takes the “cruising altitude” in the flight plan for the altitude of all the waypoints. At least that is my experience with my (free) flight planner.
You can go into any saved flight plan (in, say Notepad), adjust the waypoint altitudes, resubmit it to MSFS and behold the results. My flight planner looks at all the airport altitudes in the plan and sets the cruising altitude (and so the waypoint altitudes) to 1000 feet above the maximum.
Going the simbrief route you’ll also need to have an Navigraph subscription in order to access the most recent AIRAC. . . currently FEB20 through MAR20 is free.
Simtoolkit Pro seems like a great one I’m not sure if you can modify waypoints but it’s very customizable
Another issue I have using Simbrief is inserting STARS as well SIDS because the STARS and SIDS it gives you is very limited and often not even for the runway you wish to land being an active runway. Perhaps they are all unlocked and available if indeed you have a Navigraph subscription?
That’s interesting. I tried that recently, but didn’t work at all. It still kept redirecting me above my set cruising altitude. Changed all the higher ones (say 20000) to 12000, but still ATC told me to go to 20000. They seemed hard to fool… will have another go at it soon…
Having a problem with the AIRAC cycle not being current in the FBWA320 FMC. I am a paid up subscriber to Navigraph. When I use Simbrief I can see that the current AIRAC cycle 2106 is valid and is active for me to use. Yet when I open the FBWA320’s FMC when looking at the DATA page it says that I am using the 2105 cycle (May20 - Jun 16). Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?
Hello,
I have moved your post to Third Party Addon Discussion. Discussion regarding anything that is not produced by Asobo or Microsoft goes into these categories.
Have you downloaded the Navigraph Beta for MSFS 2020? Log in and search their site for it
I’m looking for a MSFS Flight Planner with (for me) the absolute minimum functionality, any suggestions appreciated:
(1) Add waypoints that might be airports or user clicks on map
(2) Allow the user to click on any entry already in the Flight Plan and edit it, including the name of the waypoint. This is ESSENTIAL.
My requirement is to use a MSFS flightplan for gliding tasks, and these are getting seriously messed up by MSFS assuming the FlightPlan is primarily to drive the autopilot - MSFS loads the flight plan, mangles it into a autopilot driving script, and throws the original flightplan away. A simple example is for a flightplan A to B to C, it is impossible to set an altitude for point B (i.e. you can put one in the .pln file, but MSFS will generate its OWN altitude for point B after it loads the flightplan, and throw away the altitude you specified.
I have custom gauges so if you name a waypoint “Catfish Pond+1234” the gauge will know the elevation of that waypoint is 1234 feet. There is no other way.
My (free) flight planner allows you to change the name of a waypoint as you wish. Here is the User’s Guide. This was posted before in this thread. If I can modify the app. to meet your needs, email me (email address is in the User’s Guide) and I will consider the request.
hey Fred thanks for the supportive response… I did download your program but didn’t spot the guide so I struggled a bit.
Now I’ve read your guide I’ll have another go… GTFP seems to have real potential.
That’s the first reference to simulated annealing I’ve seen for quite a while…
I have been using little nav map for a while and really like it. It can be a steep learning curve and take a while to understand. I have created nearly 50 flight plans using little nav map.
Little nav map will not allow altitude adjustments between waypoints at the moment. I have tried to figure out a way for my mountain flight plans but couldn’t. I usually create a text file with some notes for the flight. ie: At wp7 climb 5000ft to 10,000 by next waypoint vor 0123.
MSFS has a knack for imposing its will on flight plans too.
The two best I have used are LittleNavMap (Releases · albar965/littlenavmap · GitHub) and PlanG (V4 Beta). Personally I prefer LittleNavMap (LNM) but it does have a steeper learning curve.
Yes if LittleNavMap allowed you to edit altitudes for intermediate waypoints that would go into the .PLN file ok but then MSFS would discard that anyway.
That’s why my compromise objective is to edit the name of the waypoint (LNM hardcodes those as WP1, WP2 or whatever it picked up out of an internal database).
I’m going to have a good look at Fred’s GTFP - IMHO it has real potential although the UI takes a bit of getting used to.
If the MSFS 2020 flight planner was not that bad and impossible to use we would not need an alternative flight planner. We should ask Microsoft to heavily improve the inbuilt flight planner and to make compatible with other mods like Littlenav
The World Map flight planner automatically includes SID and STAR waypoint altitude and speed restrictions used by ATC. LNM only includes these as notes to the flight plan which are not part of the imported flight plan. The World Map flight planner often displays for IFR alternate selectable routes similar to SkyVector and SimBrief features. I don’t think LNM has alternate routes. MSFS does lack printable flight plans for in-flight tracking of actual time and fuel used.
There are many very good flight planners with different features and route planners. Not all flight planners generate the same flight plan using the same endpoints.
I am looking for an utility to schedule my virtual Fleet. I created a virtual airline and have 3 plane types in my fleet and the cities I wish to fly to. Is there a program that I can input the data and generate a schedule?
