Best Joystick for MSFS 2020

Hello,
I am in the market for a new joystick with throttle. I like and generally fly the C-130. Would you please give me your recommendation?

Do you have a price range? Do you want a stick or a yoke?

I have the Boeing TCA (787) and it’s amazing. It does require some space to set it up.

Hi @JimW0371 ,

I like my Thrustmaster T.1600M FCS. It has lots of programmable switches and the grip rotates for use as a rudder pedal

OP, your budget range would be really helpful.

Depending on budget : many FFB peripherals are coming up recently ! I would definetly go for a FFB Yoke or Stick

The X52 from Logitech is a good starter HOTAS as far as budget. I stick with mine because it has so many analog axes. I have rotary dials set to Prop and Mix/Condition, along with a slider set to Spoilers. I have yet to find another HOTAS with as many available axes. I bought my first one almost 20 years ago when it was still made by Saitek, and only replaced it recently when one of the cable connectors started going bad. The stick and throttle themselves were still working fine. The only thing that a few people complain about are the detents in the throttle at 25% and 75%. But if you’re willing to forego the warranty, you can open the bottom cover and remove the ball and spring from that detent and have smooth travel from 0-100%.

Might be worth mentioning that the OP is on Xbox, which limits the options massively.

I use the Thrustmaster HOTAS One - it’s cheap as chips, and whilst not being the highest quality offering, or does the job will. The only irritating thing for me is the deterrent halfway through the throttle range, which can either be a hindrance or a blessing, depending on your take on it… For me, I could happily do without it.

The other options you have are the Turtlebeach Velocity One joystick, or the Airbus joystick with the separate throttle controller, but I’ve not used either of these… They’re not really suitable for me at least, as they have smallish throttles rather than the larger one on the HOTAS I mentioned, and I tend to fly a lot of helicopters so need something a bit more substantial for use as a collective.

Hope that helps!

Just a reminder that the OP is on Xbox - these may all be great joysticks, but they won’t work!

Yep - that cuts out the X52. In that case, I’d start with this one:

I’have it. Job is done, but…reliability !!! specially on Power axis is a problem

Thank you everyone for your help! I went with the Thrustmaster HOTAS X-56. What I am really interested is having the switches control the lights on my C-130. (I was a real life AC-130 pilot) Can any one give me “EXACT” instructions for setting up one light , that I can use to help set up the others?

Maybe this will get you started.

Note the Search box on the left for “light”.

Click one to map the button to it.

Then
Click the top “Start scanning” box and then click the button to select it.
Click the “Select an Input” and select your button from the drop down list.

Good choice! The throttle has been working flawlessly for me for 7 years but the joystick is just ok and now sits collecting dust since I currently use a VKB Gladiator NXT EVO Space Combat Edition.

For some paid aircraft you’ll need software like SpadneXt or AAO

Hi there, hope you get to see this post.
I have the older Saitek-branded X52 from MANY years back and wondered if that would still be supported by MSFS on Xbox X ? If not, how about the newer Logitech version of the X52 ? Just wondered what hardware platform you are using ? I simply want a reasonably priced HOTAS (as in, not the ÂŁ300 range !) that can be used with MSFS on Xbox X, even if it means a lot of setting up.

Also, one other (potentially silly) question: If you are an Xbox user, I’m assuming that if multiple USB inputs are connected (e.g. joystick AND keyboard), they will all function in parallel ?

Thanks

for small airplanes the honeycomb alpha is a great yoke

for airliners like the fenix or fbw i use the virpil alpha joystick, its not cheap, but im happy everyday, absolutely worth it.

Can those be used on OP’s Xbox?

@JimW0371
Do you prefer playing MSFS on Xbox or PC? I’m asking because you didn’t specify and I have a feeling you might have also a PC.
