Best VR Airliners

Hi

I’ve been flying VR with PMDG 737, FBW A320, BA 146 and CRJ and it’s clear that they work differently. At least on my I7-6700 CPU and 3070Ti GPU.

I’m curious about the Fenix 320 and Maddog MD80 and their VR performance.

So far my list of best working aircraft foe VR are

1 PMDG 737-700
2 FBW 320
3 CRJ 7/900
4 Ba 146

Where would you put MD80 and Fenix A320?
Or do you have different experiences?

Don’t have the MD80. But the Fenix 320 gives me significantly worse performance than the other airliners (3080 Ti with G2).
PMDG performance is excellent in VR. To my taste the fps in the Fenix 320 is too low, so I hardly ever fly it, unfortunately…

Fenix runs fine on good settings. most realistic there is, or at least one of them.

Don’t bother with the md80. I have all the major airliner addons and the md 80 anint worth the price at all. the fenix a320 is incredible and performs very well. Highly recommended that.

So are you speaking in general or for VR performance?

Here is my dialog with Aerosoft regarding their coming release of A330 and VR

What about VR. Have you been able to trim the sim performance well enough so that it works just as smooth as PMDG?
The CRJ VR do not work very well.

We do not except problems, but it remains a very complex 3d model (seriously more complex then PMDG work) so it will need a very serious system in VR.

Just my opinion but Fenix has suffered a major FPS drop since SU10. I was getting 40fps with it consistently and now barely get above 30.

The CRJ (Aerosoft) performs really well in VR. constant 40fps however you cannot click center HDG, SPEED and ALT knobs in VR unfortunately and they’re not gonna fix it by the sounds of it.

BTW, I have a high-end machine with 6900HX and 3080Ti.

I have the PMDG 737-700 and -800, and they are amazing in VR. I also have the Fenix A320 and it is amazing, as well. Overall VR performance (in terms of smoothness) is better in the PMDGs, but the Fenix is also good - just suffers a bit in larger airport environments like KATL.

Should mention that I have held off on the Aerosoft CRJs for reasons mentioned above - can’t push knobs like speed, hdg, alt… that’s a deal-breaker for me in VR since I don’t use the mouse. Dev reluctance to fix these issues also makes the CRJ a no-go for me. Too bad. I really wanted a regional jet for MSFS.

  1. PMDG 737
  2. Aerosoft CRJ
  3. FBW A320
  4. Fenix A320

These are the ones I have. Even though the Fenix is clearly the worst in terms of fps on my system, I still fly it the most. It‘s just too good.

Thanks a lot so far. Interesting
I think I got 1 step closer to Fenix.
Also if I understand it correct, it has a real pause functionality.
What about loading a saved flight, does it remember the settings?
FBW is a catastrophe here.

And flying VR at big airports sometimes requires, one must load a saved flight to keep the memory good.

I guess a lot of weird things happened after SU10.
I had to change a lot of my settings and still it’s not up to speed.

The md80 just isn’t to the same quality as pmdg and fenix in my opinion. The sounds a are very poor also.

Thanks sthackrey

Seems you’re not the only one.

As some of you evaluated CRJ so well and myself didn’t I tried it again and must admit it works very well

Seems to be a good list.

After testing the MS A320Neo and CRJ more.

  1. PMDG 737
  2. Aerosoft CRJ
  3. MSFS A320
  4. FBW A320
  5. Fenix A320
    6 Maddog MD80

And remember all that is measured here is the VR performance, not the complexity of the plane itself

PMDG 737 all the away for me.

I find the scaling on the FBW A320 is off, I feel like I’m an 8 year old sat in the cockpit.

Yep.
The only aircraft where you must start moving around the physical chair to compensate.

FBW don’t seem to have put any energy to VR.
The other day I found out that it’s less problematic to fly the Asobo A320 actually even though there are some annoying bugs.
Of course depending on the equipment

Mine is
I7-6700 3,4 GHz
3070Ti
