For those of us with triple monitor setups, or those simply using two monitors to enhance their experience, there have always been a number of things we had hoped Asobo would introduce in 2020. Regrettably, after hearing Martial indicate in one of the Dev streams that they believe its “done” I think we all knew we wouldn’t see future improvement in 2020, and had hoped that 2024 might bring some improvements. Unfortunately, with the 2024 release that hasn’t happened.
To try and create a consolidated list of wish list improvements for triple monitor setups, I start this thread.
The ability to independently zoom each render window/image. This would allow the user the ability to better find a suitable seating position and better center the view. Depending on which aircraft you’re in, sometimes getting the center/main view sorted results in the side windows being too zoomed in/out.
The ability to save a view configuration to each aircraft or as a preset. Due to the different geometry of each aircraft cockpit, often times you’ll find that a multi monitor setting that works in one aircraft, doesn’t align in another. As was the case in P3D (and perhaps FSX), having the ability to save a view to an aircraft (in the same way you can now do with controllers) would be fantastic and save a LOT of time.
The ability to use Frame Generation over multiple monitors. I understand this may not be possible with the current rendering engine, but it does work in some other titles, so I suspect the issue isn’t with NVIDIA.
The ability to move the viewpoint relevant to each render window. I understand this is probably a little too much to ask, but as you could with earlier sims, the ability to individually move each render windows viewpoint.
At the least, the ability to better align monitors. Whilst this was OK in 2020 because from the settings screen you could see all three monitors, with 2024 thats not possible as once you enter the SETTINGS menu, the background becomes grey and you are zoomed out of the cockpit. So there is no way to align the monitors from within the SIM.
(Not sure how I’m supposed to allign my monitors when I can’t see the centre one…).
I can’t believe they actually made it worse than 2020. It wouldn’t be the only thing in the sim they made worse apparently, but something as basic as positioning the monitors is unworkable and that’s insane.
Unbelievable indeed. I have not yet purchased FS2024 while waiting for experiences and impressions from others who have purchased FS2024. I also have 3 screens.
I still have FS2020 and have invested a lot in hardware over the past few years.
Because of what I read here, I will wait a little longer before purchasing FS2024 and will continue with FS2020.
Update 30 march 2025: Still waiting.
Strange that you can see anyrhing on the surrounding on the mainscreen,
At least i can still see on the bottom side on my mainscreen some of the surrounding.
But i see the image rotates on the back ground and this can come in handy as reference between the screens and on screen adaptions.
For the C172 i put my compass in the center
And my zoom and horizontal at 50 as default (when all is set and to my like than i zoom in and translate my view and adapt my view personal default without disturbing the cockpit setting from multiview.
I mean i can hover with the mouse over the bar i want to adjust and prees it to select and then with the arrow keys left or right i can easilly adjust the view seeing directly and can match
With neigbor center view ( i think this better improvement )
Setting up for me is very easy and does not cost me much time to do so
@Airbumps2501 do you see any performance issues when adding second and third screen views? What about when breaking out a Garmin GNS view, or undocking a window like ATC or Navlog, and moving these to an alternate screen?
In FS2020, moving undocked windows to a separate screen could impact FPS. Curious if you notice anything similar in FS2024, or if that multi-monitor issue at least has been resolved.
Hey mate - I’m using a 4090 paired with a 7950X3D. In 2024 I see a massive increase in GPU usage/time, going from around 10ms with a single 4k render window to around 30ms with the a total of three. Whilst its hard to argue against this as the GPU is rendering two addition screens, whats interesting is that I’m seeing virtually zero increase in CPU time, going from 13ms up to around 17ms depending on other settings. In 2020, this was not the case, and adding the additional two render windows would result in huge increase in CPU time with far less GPU time.
In addition in 2020 the TLOD and OLOD sliders would almost exclusively increase main thread time for me. In 2024, its the opposite, and when I increase TLOD or OLOD I barely notice any increase in main thread time, but a huge increae in GPU time.
I get the impression that in 2024 they’ve off loaded a LOT of the work the CPU was doing in 2020 onto the GPU. Thats good for day to day users, however those of us that run triple monitors may find that even with a 4090 its a real struggle to keep 30 FPS in light conditions, and the CPU is under worked.
But all of that is beside this point I guess. This thread is about brining attention to the need for deveopment of multi monitor options…Please vote everybody!
A lot of stuff was just copy/pasted over from 2020 and this was one of them. I don’t see this ever getting fixed, especially now with the huge bug list they have in front of them. It’s amazing they got this so wrong when all they had to do was look at something like iracing or any other sim racing game to see how it should be done.
Integration of better multi-window support is a must. I have triples on my simrig, and flew for about 5 minutes and started feeling ‘off’ to say the least. Zooming out while outside the plane and seeing the same runway go away from you on each monitor is a little awkward.
And not being able to see adjustments in relation to the main monitor behind the menu is wild.
Very poor FPS with 3 monitors in 2024. 2020 is much better!
Probably the streaming part has to do with it. 2 monitors and its ok but my FPS goes down to 10-12 FPS with 3. Cant do it , staying with 2020 for now. Waste of $200.00 . My internet Connection I get 200mbs so it not that.
That depends on how well it is implemented. iRacing for example doesn’t split it into three different screens, it is one screen divided in three sections spread across the 3 monitors and the view angles are adjusted on each section. It’s very badly done in msfs, also please, how did they not think not to zoom out the view and block the centre screen when you are adding new render windows, it’s almost impossible to line them up correctly.
I’m just baffled that anyone within the team testing the multimonitor functionality didn’t notice the glaringly obvious inability to align the screens when the main screen becomes blocked during this process. Was it even looked at? Unlikely! Simply a copy paste from 2020 but a worse user experience. Please fix this. It cannot be overly difficult with the talent at your disposal.
We’re seeing videos of people who seem to have figured out the solution to monitor alignment but I don’t see the settings being shared with the community.
