Better performance with my new usb network adapter!

Hello to everyone.

I would like to share with the community my today experience. I might help some people to resolve issues with FSMS2020.

After replacing the pcie network adapter was installed on the motherboard of my PC, with a new USB wireless network adapter, I’ve noticed a big difference on performance and the whole sim seems more stable .The loading time has been improved as well. I did three different flights quitting on the desktop after having finished each one.

I always have 5g signal even with my previous adapter and internet speed around 200mbs, but replacing the the pcir adapter with the USB one seem has added something more to my system when it’s about FSMS2020!

Does anyone else had a similar experience?

Which motherboard are you using? It could be driver related, in need of firmware update or faulty.

Glad you’ve seen improvement!

Its the B450 tomahawk Max. I had bios update last summer and the latest driver for the previous adapter.

Recently I start having problems with the wifi connection with my PC. That’s why I had to replace the pcie network adapter .

It may had something to do with power supply for both network adapter and GPU at the same time.
My gpu is a 1060 6gb and the supply unit it’s a 650w one.

I suspect there are a few problems caused by a dodgy internet connection. Glad you’ve sorted yours out.

For years I had a wired home network and a few weeks ago I went wireless. It introduced all sorts of stutters. I checked download and upload speeds and the results were all ok but I still got bad MSFS performance. I couldn’t be bothered to sort it out so I went back to wired and all is now well.

Of course, As flight simmers and in order to fly internet connections are something we’ve not had to worry about previously (unless multiplayer used). Another thing that can go wrong now, an extra layer of complexity.

Hahaha, that actually made me laugh

Onboard wifi/ethernet could technically cause some conflicts with other onboard chipsets, but it’s very unlikely. Some interrupt conflict could cause errors to go up but I haven’t seen that for a long time happening with the resources modern PCs have.

You could try to switch back to the old connection and see if you get again a slower performance. Just to verify that you’re not suffering from some placebo effect (don’t want to suggest you do, but it happens).

Did you compare the latency of the two adapters? This is more important than the absolute performance of the network connection. It is generally higher with WLAN than with cable. It can change if you change the WLAN channel in a busy environment.
You can see your latency in MSFS server connections.

I’ve tried to do that last night and yes the difference is very obvious!

No placebo effect here though. And I was completely sober by that time :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I haven’t compare the latency between the two adapters but last night I swapped them, installing the pcie one back and I could see problems with the connectivity and also stutters appeared in MSFS2020. Back to stable environment after removed it once again and stay tuned with the USB one!

I’m happy about the results!
