So, cleaning up registry plus mantaining fully updated all drivers is a must for having the MSFS2020 running mint. But, just hapenned to be that running the latest iObit Advanced SystemCare software, it just went killing 100 GB of official content.
Im already downloading that again ( -1 day- ).
Be aware of it. Ive just asked for tech support, that off course will knock the door on my system maybe by april.
As a certified MCP, I can tell you that all registry cleaners are snake-oil and should be avoided. Since Windows XP, Windows has been quite happy having leftover items in the registry without any problems so cleaning it is quite unnecessary.
As an MCSE I concur. The advice here should not be to avoid this specific piece of registry clean up software but to avoid them all like the plague. The same goes for everything remotely like them.
There are very specific use cases for registry maintenance, and this isnât one of them. End Users should have no reason to go into the registry unless guided by a genuine support query. As set above, âtoolsâ like this are little more than a racket.
The best thing you can do with those types of registry cleaning software is to remove them and never use them again. Iâve been in I.T for years, and have never seen them be anything but useless. You donât need software to keep your drivers updated either, do it yourself and really the most important one is your video card unless a stability issue with some other piece of hardware is being patched. Trash those useless apps and your PC will thank you.
Every month, run regedit and create a backup of your registry.
and, create a system restore point.
Finally, if you are really concerned, back up the Community folder and the official folder - with all of the aforementioned done, you will never need re-download.
If you copy the two folders into your FS directory, run âRepairâ from Apps and you should be good to go..
PS. I have Advanced System Care and clean my Registry every few months - so far, I have never had a problem (fingers crossed).
Yeah, stop doing that. Delete the software and never go near it again. Unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing, and EXACTLY why you are doing it you should never alter your registry, and you should NEVER let automated software go anywhere near it. Itâs blind luck that you havenât botched your system already.
There is no gain in touching the register, as mentioned by others there is just risk associated with it.
There seems to be an old myth still going around that it improves the performance to âcleanâ the register, Iâm sure the companies making that kind of software want users to believe itâs true..
All these âcleanersâ, are completely unnecessary and do nothing but cause trouble. You donât need them. At. All.
Windows 10 is very good at taking care of itself. If you really want to clean just use the built-in Disk Cleanup. (Tip for those who might not know: Click the âClean up System Filesâ button and you might well see Windows Update files taking up a bunch of space. Like 4GB.) so you can regain a lot of space.
If you must defrag (which again I feel is not needed on todays systems even on spinner drives) use the native app that comes with Windows. If you have an SSD download the monitoring program from the manufacturers website. Like Crucial Storage Executive or Samsung Magician.
Going off on a small tangent: same story with Android . The Google Play store is FULL of âcleanersâ and âRAM cleanersâ with pretty graphics of animated brushes, rockets and trash cans. No no no and no. Android is very very good at managing resources and these apps do nothing but make more work for the OS. Use the native functions and all is good. Unfortunately these useless apps have gazillions of downloads giving the false impression that they are needed
I am sorry, but for myself? ( i have used the pro version for many years) have Never encountered any problem with this software. If i had more data from yourself? i might even help here, but, not even sure if i can. For myself? as stated, the software from IOBit has never indicated, or prohibited any installation of any software that i have ever installed. Might i ask from where you downloaded your particular boot?
All of these applications exist in that Dunning-Kruger liminal space targeting people who think they are informed about computers because they use software like this to âmaintainâ their systems but donât actually know enough about computers to realize theyâre unnecessary.
I understand. I confirm that i do have IT LV;S 1 + 2 (uK) But, again though, i am now seeing others that are indicating problems, and i never did have any myself. Primarily perhaps because i am also on top of manually cleaning my system as a side to IOBit. ie, System Defrag, Manually dropping background apps etc, I am not sure why others have had issues here. Perahps it will be the case that this software will indeed bite me one day, but, so far? is nearly a decade? no issues at all. for me. But, besides the cleaning side of the software, it really does have âsomeâ level of protection against virus, and potential hack ets. i know this. I used to run Norton360 simultaneously too, then it occoured to me, Does one or both software cancel one or both out? Hmm the mind boggles, the pc boggles even more.
There is definitely a case for cleaning the registry if apps are trying to access data that has already been deleted from your system, this includes the improper removal of any MSFS mods that actually came with an installer.
All - for us old guys, years ago, Microsoft published and maintained âregclean.exeâ, which went through and cleaned the registry quite well, although you might have had to have some input, been years since I messed in there. It was a great program, ran well, did itâs job good. Although a few years ago, I installed something, and even though I uninstalled it, part of it kept popping up, with error screens, et-al. So, I did have to go into registry, and find and delete every single entry this program placed there, would have been faster to just blow away install of windows and rebuild os from ground up. PIA that was.
Because Windows mostly 7 and up have improved below the scenes, not really necessary today. Happy Flying.
Oh Man ⊠what a mess! The deleted 100GB, -indeed official content-, were taken by that software as âgarbage filesâ ⊠So, I downloaded yesterday all that, and now my SIM is booting my system as half loading bar after checking for updates.
