BeyondATC

Have just taken a look at their Discord and apparently this lack of traffic, it’s a known issue and they are investigating. I very rarely use Discord. It would be nice to have some kind of notification in the app, rather than have to do all the chasing yourself! Oh well!

This - even if it was some pop up showing the latest updates or known issues somehow linked from Discord so as not to give the devs more work. I do use Discord (only the basics mind!) but the UI is terrible for searching. If not for @GhostlyFrend and this thread, I’d find it difficult to stay up to date.

A tidbit of news…

Q: Anyone notice that the KBOS gate assignments for AI Traffic is way off? The international terminal is almost empty and the other terminals are full of both domestic and international.

A: The devs are working on an update to how parking is assigned.

Minor Version 1.7.1.Experimental

Traffic

- Player airports now use a much wider traffic time slice, giving much more complete traffic at airports including cargo aircraft not leaving for a long time. In addition fix bugs that reduced the amount of traffic in 1.7.0 - in general traffic volumes will be better than ever before now while being more accurate.

  • Fixed traffic turnarounds not working
  • Read airline parking codes from scenery (Asobo added an API for this) when they exist and combine them with our data for increase in parking accuracy. These are often incomplete - even in payware, so they are supplementary not the source of all truth!
  • Fix overlapping traffic on top of player if the player starts a flight at their destination airport
  • Fixed gate allocation timing for traffic which was causing runway turn off directions to often be wrong since 1.7.0
  • Update AIG registration to livery mapping file from @MarceloNahas - reminder this only applies if AIG is top priority in your traffic list
  • Taxi pathing adjustments to better keep arriving and departing aircraft on separated paths

CPDLC

  • Fixed another potential crash when requesting PDC at airports that are not fully staffed [#88122683 & #16817869]
  • Added guard against verbal center handover script being triggered when player doesn’t respond to CPDLC message in time but has already switched frequencies - [#65645969 & #66423933]
  • IniBuilds - Added handling for non standard message ‘REQUEST DES TO’
  • Fenix - Added non standard ‘LOGOFF’ message when handed over to a controller that does not have CPDLC, allowing for automatic plane side disconnect.
  • Moved autotune trigger for CPDLC handover until after the player responds to the handover message
  • Added logon code for LAAA, LKAA, LHCC, EYVL, MHCC and MMID
  • Changed Mexico Center CPDLC logon code from MMMD to MMEX
  • Changed Brest Control CPDLC logon code from LFMM to LFRR

Improvements

  • Better altitude handling in STARs that do not end in an altitude constraint, which could often lead to arrivals being too high [26978337 + others]

Airport Ops Updates
NZNP, KMCO, LEBL, VAPO, UUDD, VLVT, RPVP, YBAS, SBBE

A reminder this is an experimental build, with experimental features. It may have bugs that were not in the last experimental build. If you have issues please report them in the support forum and / or revert to EA build for a more stable experience. Assuming no major issues and positive feedback from supporter on the changes, this build will move to EA early next week.

This sounds promising. We might get our usual traffic volumes back soon. Thanks for the update.

Tried a flight out of KMEM this afternoon with the most recent update and had a couple foibles. First, despite clearing me to line up and wait on 18C, BATC moved an AI plane right into my path. When I stopped, so did the AI plane. I then used the BATC traffic map app to remove that AI plane and asked BATC for takeoff clearance. I was told to hold for traffic, and that never changed. I could never get takeoff clearance. So I hit ESC to end BATC involvement in the flight, took off and began vectoring myself to the first waypoint on the SID. When I hit “Fly Now”, I expected BATC to recognize in was in-flight and confirm I was in climb. However, I got yelled at for taking off without clearance and the status message said BAD PILOT, lol. The app simply picked back up from the point I hit ESC, and did not reinitialize itself. I quit the app entirely, restarted it and then as expected it realized I was in flight and let me select climb as the phase.

Hopefully my descent, arrival and approach into JFK goes more smoothly.

It could be very helpful if you’d post the log of this flight on the discord bug channel, so they can iron out possible bugs before merging to early access.

Does anyone have any insight on BATC’s future for traffic separation/avoidance/conflict management?

I regularly run into issues with air traffic during departure and arrival. I’m hoping that there will be a future where traffic management in the air is improved. I often feel like there is ATC, the AI aircraft and there is me, but they all don’t know about one another.

No, but here’s the much anticipated info about….. drum roll…. Vee Efff Arrrr…. Whoohooooo!!!

Captain speaking:

Hello all, I have a brief new video for you today where we outline our upcoming plans for VFR. We’ve finally gotten to the point where we feel ready to move on to new features and VFR represents the biggest step in our road to 1.0 and our eventual departure from early access. You can check it out here:

We will be sharing more details about specifics in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Great to see the progress so far — the updates look very promising. I’m interested to see how the VFR side develops over time. I know different users prefer different styles of ATC, so I’m curious how it will feel in practice. For my own flying I tend to lean away from anything too structured linear, but that’s just a personal preference and not a criticism. Looking forward to seeing how things continue to evolve. Well done.

Hey all! Further to the above - BATC will be releasing a way to get in touch if you’re an aviation professional and can spare your knowledge and time to help refine VFR (and BATC as a whole going forward) in the coming days - thanks to everyone who has already engaged with the video, it means a lot to us all, here’s to 2026 and Beyond!

I almost had to resort to VFR approach myself last night with the a completely wonky vectored IFR approach into EGCC. I was vectored from the north over MCT (fine) but was commanded to descend to 2000ft (not fine as I should be at 3500ft as there are hills at 2000ft on approach to 23R) and then clearance to fly ILS after leaving MCT (fine) but at wrong altitude and no vectored guidance to get on to final. (Note: at this point I was heading(vectored) a full 180 deg away from the 231 deg for 23R.) I ended up doing a quick manual hdg change to intercept the ILS and did it short as at 2000ft I’d have crashed into those hills with a full length ILS approach). Vectored approaches still a big hit & miss it would seem. Strangely I get vectored into EGPF (with hills on approach) perfectly every time. It’s usually fine into EGCC too, but just completely wrong last night with the MCT transition.

Taxi is also sometimes a hit or miss. There have been times, I was told a little too late to stop to let traffic pass by, resulting in stand offs. I am talking EHAM. Then, there are other airports where entire army of BATC injected aircraft stand off and at other times everything seems to work fine.

I had a proper gridlock at EGCC yesterday. An Easyjet A320 was waiting to get cleared to cross 23R which was never given, with 10+ planes piling up behind it from all directions. Eventually I got tired of waiting and just cut to the front and was given permission to cross the runway right away :man_shrugging:

Right, it often happens when aircraft are waiting to cross a runway. Happens at EHAM as well with aircraft waiting to cross 36C/18C that results in a long line of aircraft.

I have been getting quite a few voice server crashes lately. Requires a restart of Beyond ATC to get it started again. Today it crashed again on restart and had to do it a second time. Anyone else or is it just me?

Yep, seen this too and if anything is coming from T3, all hell breaks loose lol.

In real life (not a pilot, but a spotter), as soon as an arriving aircraft passes the crossing point, the crossing aircraft will begin/allowed to cross immediately, unless something has been cleared for landing (which in the sim, is often a little too early). They used to allow crossings later than this but there was a few near misses in the early days of runway 2. In the sim, the crossing aircraft is having to wait until the arriving aircraft has left the runway.

BATC have updated airport ops for EGCC in the past, I would expect this time to be no different but as Ini EGCC has only just released, might be a while yet. I can make do for now, plus you can temporarily use the BATC map to delete AI that jam up the place.

EDIT: I can already see a number of these items have been reported on Discord. :+1:

The other thing I noticed was how empty some airports are. Flew from EFHK (Finland’s main international airport so fairly large) yesterday and only saw two other airplanes. The rest: utterly deserted. Didn’t matter what I set parked aircraft to in the settings. Very strange, haven’t seen this before.

Minor Version 1.7.2.Experimental

Traffic

  • Improve stuck traffic due head to head taxi routes
  • Stop aircraft holding for ever to takeoff because of another aircraft is waiting to cross runway
  • Further turnaround fix for mismatches in tail numbers that was very prevalent outside the US
  • Fix low traffic volumes after you press Esc to load a new flight

Improvements

  • Improve handling of WinWing SimAppPro ghost events in binding and input control, should now be 100% reliable and no longer requires the 2 second button press process during binding. Thanks to @Belsdont for assistance with that!
  • AIRAC 2512 pronunciation data
  • Latest airline updates from pilot portal

Bug Fixes

  • Fix very old METARs potentially being loaded when using MSFS2024 24 hour historic weather.
  • Fix GSX arrival integration not working after the recent 3.7.2 GSX patch, that changed various menu names and flows
