tbh I’ve not departed EGCC in a while so I’d have to go check. The last few times have also always been from 23L and that was before the two most recent BATC and EGCC updates.
Is BATC’s AI aware of other aircraft relative to your own? On a (very enjoyable) flight yesterday, LHBP-EDDN, just after establishing, ATC requested a speed change to “minimum approach speed”. Thinking it was just another BATC quirk, I proceeded with my current speed but then noticed, only a mile or so ahead, another aircraft working the same approach. I tried to reduce speed but by this point, I was already too close — I then lost the other aircraft in cloud but had a late go-around demand (probably at about 400ft) and noticed while overflying the runway that the preceeding aircraft hadn’t vacated. Coincidence or was BATC actually trying to manage my speed to maintain sufficient separation?
Another KLAS to KSAN flight: while descending through FL220 from FL320 with a current TAS of 400 knots, BATC tells me, “Reduce speed to 180 knots.” Yeah, sure! I would, but I don’t have a drag chute! Sadly, that response isn’t an option, and the LLM in BATC isn’t sophisticated enough to handle an “unable speed” reply. It just keeps nagging you about the speed until you finally clear whatever triggered the command in the first place.
Yes, it’s gone from having zero speed instructions to constantly getting requests to slow to 180kts or “minimum approach speed” (then being told to “resume normal speed” a few miles later). Could this be the improved separation at work? In other words, is there a legitimate reason for it?
Basically yes, or early workings of it. It’s not perfect yet, but it’s a start. Gatwick is quite fun to AI spot from listening to ATC trying desperately to separate them all.
So what is minimum approach speed? I got asked to do this 20 miles away, should I drop all my flaps and slow down to ~140 kn that far away, or is getting to 200 or so in clean config ok?
I suppose it depends at what stage of the approach you’re at. Full flaps and 140kts at 6,000ft is preposterous. It’s a very ambiguous instruction that requires more context, if you ask me.
Agreed (10 characters)
Is there a recommended headset? I’m using a Logitech h111 but I get no audio detected…It is working fine with sayintentions.
You probably have to go into the options page and change your sound input, and output device manually.
Done that part
This appears to have been addressed. While I have only tested at one airport (KVLK), it is one of the three examples that I’d included in my bug report about this issue.
In Microsoft and in the Beyond ATC app? If so Airpods work, I have no idea why Logitech doesnt.
Basically in real-world operations, if ATC issues you some ridiculous speed restriction you can respond with “Unable speed” and state your limitation. Controllers will then resequence or vector you to maintain separation. Currently BATC lacks this negotiation logic, it tends to repeat instructions in a loop until its logic clears up. It does also kick in too early (i.e. at above 10000 ft you are unlikely to be speed restricted).
NOTAM
We’ve seen the announcement from the FSLTL team regarding the shutdown of the free API from Flightradar24 they were using for their injector. We’re genuinely saddened to hear this, FSLTL has been a huge part of the flight sim community and we have a lot of respect for what their team has built and all their work.
A lot of you have been asking if this affects BeyondATC - it does not. BeyondATC only uses FSLTL base models which will remain available, not the injector or its live traffic data. As a reminder, BeyondATC uses two sets of historical data that were purchased for our own traffic injection.
Urggh, that’s sad news. FSLTL helped me through the dark traffic times on 2020 until BATC came along. Nothing lasts forever I guess…
Question… if I install other Windows voicepacks, does that open up more of “my” pilot voices?
I’ve not used that service before. If they offered a paid API option, would it be possible to use your own API key for traffic injection? If that were an option at both ends, I mean?
I’ve just installeer fsltl a week ai and havent been able to play with the combination with batc yet.
But the models are free. It’s the fr24 link that had to go. So fsltl can’t inject aircraft where fr24 has them.
At least that’s how I read the posts on discord atm.
Would be too expensive
