Lucky you…can’t even manage to get the mic working with BATC.
The mic that works perfectly with Windows Voice Mail etc.
I had one great flight so far. But it was payware airport to payware airport and both products have good data. In that case, the experience is far far far better than in any other ATC tool I have used in the past.
In my other flights, some things went wrong at some point. But, some of these issues might be caused be me, to be honest, f.e. when not following ATC instruction by the word (a bit too much used to just follow the STAR no matter what because other ATC tools were instructing strange things…) .
In other cases the app would just stop working - once a server issue when trying to generate speech in another case no further reaction when clicking on “Ready for descent” (or similar wording).
But I feel confident that these things will be sorted out.
All in all, it reminds me a bit of GSX - when it was released, it had potential but lots of issues. In the meantime it has become much more stable and useable and it´s a must-have despite some issues still present. This is mainly due to the devs working hard on its features and fixing bugs. And the same seems to be true for BATC.
You tried their Discord?
I had something similar with my mic, tried running BeyondATC as admin and it worked. Worth a try perhaps?
I have watched many videos on BATC and it looks really amazing! I love VATSIM, but this would be great for the days when there isn’t much/any coverage.
Couple of questions - how much is it? The website doesn’t say.
Has anyone tried BeyondATC in VR yet? The notes on their website say VR Interface is still in development, but says BATC can still be used without this in VR.
If it works well enough in VR, I’ll probably give this an early-access try!
Thanks!
I had the same problem. Three different microphones all worked with windows but none of the with BATC.
Now this is going to sound weird but I’d had a previous issue with my Navigraph failing downloads and updates, I fixed this by downloading over a VPN after reading a post from someone with the same issue.
With nothing to lose I tried BATC over a VPN and it worked perfectly.
My broadband is through a sim router over 5G which apparently can corrupt some types of data connection.
Its a one price you pay either basic or support price, I got 50 000 for premium voices. Once that runs out..you dont need to pay anymore. However if you want to continue with premium voices two price plans 9.99 dollerls for 250 000 or 29.99 for 750 000..however this is optional. I roughly did about 6 flights all within the uk with my free 50 000.
But as I say, you dont need to pay for the premium voices, for the product to be fully functional, that is purly optional.
VR I cannot comment As I cant do VR..due to Virtigo .
For me personally its the best ATC 3rd party with one other I have mentioned, you cannot compare this to the default ATC..when people want to stick to default IMHO they will be losing out.
Yes it has its faults..but what 3rd party does not.
I am finding the devs 100% transparent. However this is my own personal opinion, not to influence anyone..but I have my Money’s worth’ and more.
Yes, had two go-arounds - one at Glasgow (initiated by me) and one at Sumburgh (initiated by approach). Both were fine, but didn’t follow the published procedure. The one at Glasgow was a bit alarming as I was given a left turn when landing runway 05, which took me toward the high ground of Ben Lomond. I was turned to the downwind in good time, but the opposite of what the published required.
Try not using the “stereo” version of your mic in the Sounds Setting.
Look, I am not trying to “push” you in any direction. I have been following BATC for sometime eagerly awaiting the release of their product.
I fully understood when I hit the purchase button this was an early access product and not fully functional in any capacity.
I apologize for the tone in my response. I was getting a bit frustrated with the amount of people that were coming down hard on the developer in the community for releasing an “unfinshed” product. The majority of which I think had no clue on the back story or even understood the software was early access.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I agree with your assesment except for the early release. I think that the early release will allow them to stabilize the ATC portion much more quickly than if they continued to develop it within their small beta group. Time will tell.
Just jumping in here fully expecting this post to fly by and be forever forgotten…
Just bought BATC earlier tonight.
Flawless install and setup
GA Flight EGPF (Pyreegue) > EGPE (UK2000 I think)
Horrible IMC conditions.
FOYLE3A departure, cruise at FL170, and very well timed descent and vectoring to ILS23 at Inverness
BATC was absolutely flawless. Couldn’t believe it actually, it was that good
I’m fully aware that other flights may not go so well, and TBH with reading this topic, I wasn’t expecting much.
Pleasantly surprised and pleased at this first result.
Hope they had dougnuts in the tower
Bought BeyondATC over the weekend and absolutely love it!!
I did run into problems with it:
- It does not understand some of my responses.
- At times when I purposely messed up, it didn’t challenge me. In the real world, ATC wouldn’t have allowed for it.
- The vectoring still needs work. A couple of very odd vectoring to final approach.
With that said, my flights were all enjoyable. None of the current issues with ATC in MSFS
I think this tool will be immensely helpful for new pilots who are intimidated by radio communication. This is the best way to practice without feeling scared. New pilots can essentially practice as much as they need.
I can even see someone building a local ATC scenario for flight familiarization. For example, when flying SF Bay Tour, there are unique calls that pilots need to pay attention to. With BATC, I can see how this can make things easier for pilots.
This is a game changer for everyone!!
Bought BATC on day one, but didn’t get to install and try it until yesterday. Install was straightforward, but BATC wouldn’t connect to MSFS. The solution was to bump the MaxClients in SimConnect.xml to 128. Search Discord for more info.
Once I got connected, I attempted a flight from Seattle, Boeing Field (KBFI) to Lewiston, ID (KLWS) in the Piper Comanche. That flight started out very well (other than I got assigned 8,000’ as my top altitude which is too low and should be odd for an eastbound flight.) New altitude requests don’t seem to be working (at least down in GA-land). Anyway, just past Moses Lake, the BATC app hung processing speech and quit accepting inputs so I had to force quit it. Upon restart, it didn’t load into a meaningful state. I would have expected it to resume controlling with the appropriate Center controller, but the only frequencies available were for Lewiston. Maybe I needed to do something additional to resume the flight, but it was getting late so I just abandoned at that point.
I repeated the flight today with the latest update and it wasn’t awesome. The biggest problem was that the hand-offs weren’t occuring reliably. The first issue was that I was already on 128.5 and the controller kept telling me to “contact center on 128.5”. Eventually, I looked up the next frequency in the BATC app (which was showing correctly) and switched over. After that, the flight progressed reasonably well until I got to TOD and I wasn’t given a descent. Eventually, I figured out that I was supposed to be on a different frequency (the hand off didn’t occur) so I switched and told them I was ready for decent. I got an intial descent clearance and then a couple of quick hand-offs (presumably to the ones that got missed). The vectoring got me lined up for the visual to RWY 30 (though I was getting terrain warnings from the GPS so maybe I was below MVA), but it dumped me off too close and too high. I had to go around, which the tower didn’t handle as I never got a second landing clearance. I don’t think there was airport data for KLWS as it didn’t know what to do with parking. I asked to “taxi to transient parking,” but it didn’t know what to do with that. I was hoping for a clearance from the ground controller to do just that. At a non-busy airport like KLWS, ground would simply reply with “taxi to transient parking,” Hopefully it works in a future build.
Like others have said, this is early access so this kind of stuff is to be expected. I am very happy with the basic voices (be aware that you may want to go into options and switch because premium ones are on by default for controllers). I’ll be interested to see how things behave tomorrow (with presumably an update) flying the return trip to KBFI. My guess is that I’ll have a much better experience flying into a payware airport with an ILS for the (presumably) active runway. In that vein, I’d expect that the experience will be even better when flying airliners (particularly between payware airports). I’m flying with my laptop and not my big machine at the moment, but I’m looking forward to the airliner experience soonish.
Despite its imperfections, I’m pretty impressed with the product. I need some more time with it, but I don’t think I’m going to end up shelving this like I have with other ATC apps. When VATSIM isn’t available, I’m pretty sure this will be the go-to.
I’m exclusively a VR user and although I understand that I’ll probably have to await a VR friendly console, before buying BATC, I wondered how much use of the console current users make?
If, for example, one can just set it up with choices like auto-response and then just rely on it as a reminder of ATC instructions, I could probably get by. However, if it regularly needs to be accessed, that would be an even bigger immersion killer when in VR.
The reason I ask, is that there is a freeware addon, called color panel, by Spitice on flightsim.to, that would effectively allow a VR user to just look down at their legs and see a user-defined, custom sized/positioned, passthrough window onto an actual RL kneeboard. This could be used to make clearance notes before readback, so if that was the only reason for being able to see the BATC console, then this would be a valid workaround.
Hello fellow simmers
I use BATC without Navigraph subscription and don’t have the latest AIRAC circle.
I fly with Fenix Airbus and whole flight plan went fine until I arrived at destination airport.
I did not get any landing clearance, does anyone got same issue?
I don’t think it has anything to do with the Navigraph account, I have an active Navigraph account and the same thing happened to me.
This morning they released a new BATC patch with these updates:
Fixed a bug where handoffs to tower weren't happening for specific approach types.
Fixed a bug where visual approaches would clear you down to 1000 feet.
Fixed a bug where "intercept the localizer" wasn't being called on visual approaches.
Fixed a bug where transition altitudes were incorrectly calculated on the destination airport.
Fixed a bug where go around altitudes were being set way too high.
Continued work on fixing and removing hard to understand accents in the Basic Voice Model.
Continued work and fixes for descent profiles on STARs.
Changed the way descent instructions are calculated for STARs with no restrictions; should be much better and easier to understand.
Auto reply for "Verify information X" now working correctly.
Added confirmation for new cruise altitude so you don't accidentally get given the wrong altitude if the AI misinterpreted what you said.
Fixed a bug where "X miles from IF" was being calculated incorrectly.
For some reason, as others have thankfully stated, my “audio not detected” problem was fixed upon running my VPN, and restarting the BATC program. I guess they’re blocking certain IPs?
- At times when I purposely messed up, it didn’t challenge me. In the real world, ATC wouldn’t have allowed for it.
Atm you can pretty much do what you want. Especially when on ground, it won’t react to that.
I forgot to request push and start.
It went absolutely crazy at me.
