Big circle of low res textures around my plane

I guess the game is still broken then in certain locations.

The fix on the beta sounds more like conflicting addons, eg. If you buy a 3rd party replacement airport when Asobo have modelled one as well.

On my last few flights in the north-eastern areas of Canana, I noted the same problem with the “repeating-high-resolution-texture-but-not-Bing-aerials” problem in a circle around the aircraft. Doesn’t matter what the altitude is, it’s a fixed radius.

I assumed it was a quirk of the region, even if it did not exist in the past (based the quote above), but this is my first time in this part of the world.

I made a quick test:

  • MSFS2020 in North-Eastern Canada => Problem exists
  • MSFS2020 in Iceland => No problem
  • MSFS2024 in North-Eastern Canada => No problem (just low-res textures)

So it seems the issue is MSFS2020 only (from my point of view) and only in certain regions. I guess some of the data is not available now. I can post up some screenshot comparisons later if of interest.

Back at the PC with a little time so thought I’d post the pics:

MSFS 2020 at approx 64.09, -72.15

Low level, textures are high resolution, but they repeat (not obvious from this altitude):

Slew up to around FL250 and the effects are obvious.

The underlying Bing aerials, clearly seen at the top of the image, are still present ‘underneath’ the repeating overlay texture ‘inside the ring’ near the aircraft in the lower half of the image.

I tried turning OFF the Bing aerials completely (effectively bringing FSX scenery back), just for comparison. Now we see the SAME repeating texture pattern as in the above screenshot, but without the underlying Bing aerials giving it some variation in the area near the aircraft:

Same issue on the World Map too. Here is the low-resolution aerial:

And after zooming in just a tiny bit, boom…

Compare with a random spot in Iceland…

Good down low:

Good up high:

So it is not a general issue with the simulator. It’s localised.

MSFS 2024 has no such issue, but you are consigned to the low resolution texture when in areas with poor coverage.

Here’s the same place in Canada as the first shots in this post. No ring of generic textures. I prefer this to what MSFS 2020 is doing, however:

If anyone has different experiences, please share.
