I’ll start out by saying I’m no expert on Bios settings but this one helps me to acheive a much smoother performance . Also bear in mind you change any of your BIOS settings at your own risk.
I’ve been using MSFS since day 1 of MSFS 2020 and like most people ended up trying various tweaks to get the best performance out of it. I kept a note of any that I deemed useful, but had forgotten about this one.
I just recently updated my BIOS to enable my CPU upgrade to a 5700X3D to work and of course this resets any tweaks I had made to the BIOS.
I’m not sure if this option is available on all BIOS or if it’s on intel based systems at all(maybe under a different name?)
The setting I’m talking about is CPU PCIe ASPM Mode Control.
My Bios, an ASUS B450 plus, sets this to Auto by default but I find on my system setting it to disabled helps with the consistency of my performance in MSFS.
Very noticeable in removing a slight stutter I had in Panning quicky from left to right. Also worth trying if you suffer from sound stuttering in heavy PG areas.
Maybe worth a try.
Reading up on what it does, I was concerned that it may increase my CPU/GPU temps but I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference since Disabling it on my system.
So in summary….
try setting CPU PCIe ASPM Mode Control to Disabled in your BIOS.
Maybe make a note of what your current setting is before you change it so you can set it back if it’s of no help to you.
Surprising as that should not affect performance in any way. It’s really only intended to make modules of your system go to sleep when they are not used. Very useful for laptops, but on a desktop the autosetting is basically the same as disabled.
As I mentioned I’m no expert on this, but it was recommended by someone way back in the early MSFS 2020 days and I found it to be helpful with my system.
After changing it again recently due to my CPU upgrade I’m finding it helps in MSFS 2024 too.
Tried resetting it to Auto again and the effect is noticeable for me.
Most Ai chatbots seem to say similar to this about the setting.
For max performance / gaming / low-latency networking: Disable ASPM.
For laptops / energy efficiency / typical desktops: Leave it on Auto or L1.
I’m not sure what my Auto setting actually sets it to but Disabled seems to be better.
If people are happy changing their Bios settings it’s worth trying as you can always set it back if it causes any issues or you don’t notice any difference.
I realise that. I didn’t use a Chatbot to give me a solution to a problem and then try out the recommendations. I used it to see what it had to say about that setting and its potential effects.
The bios change I posted about improves the experience for me on my system.
I posted the info in case it was of any use to someone else.
