Bitten By The Long Haul Performance Bug (Help Please)

Good morning forum,

Just took up doing long haul’s for the VA.

Currently flying the Asobo 787 with the Horizon 789 mod. Performance at the start is the same as any other aircraft I fly.

First flight was 13 hours (Toronto to Dubai), when I checked in the morning (around 9 hours into the flight) the performance had tanked. FPS were perfectly fine, just stutters.

Upon landing it was a 700fpm slide show.

I tinkered around, and am currently doing the return leg, 10 hours in now, it’s not as bad as it was yesterday but it’s deffinetly stuttering more.

Anyone have any tips or tricks to smooth this thing out for the entire flight?

AMD 5950X
3090
128GB Memory XMP
M2

There are allot of underlying apps / tools running, as a benchmark tonight I should probably just skip all that and just load the flight and let it go.

Thoughts?

My first thought is to fly the 787 without the mod. While I don’t own the mod, I have read around that it adds burden to an already heavy load that the 787 carries in the sim. Easy enough to try?

Good thought, I’ll have to give that a try.

I’m definitely CPU limited, which makes complete sense as to why the FPS remains high but I get stuttering.

Further investigation results;

  • Re-formatted PC (was Windows 10 and running MSFS last 5 years)

  • Installed Windows 11 and configured

  • Re-installed all tools, applications, third party apps, etc… (left out quite a few that I no longer used / needed, about 300GB worth)

  • Re-applied thermal paste as I noticed in HWINFO my CPU was getting into the 90’s peridocally which would cause throttling

Results:

  • CPU no longer getting close to 90c
  • Start of flight was smoother than before
  • Startup, Taxi, Takeoff, initial cruise all perfect
  • Went to bed at TOC and checked on flight 9 hours later
  • Back to stutter fest
  • All temps fine
  • Memory and CPU usage fine
  • Closed out and killed all applications, etc aside from MSFS
  • Still a stutter fest

As a last resort, yanked the power from the cable modem

Issue went away…

Services went offline, and issue still remained away.

Plugged modem back in, services restored, issue came back.

Went into settings, disabled all online services, issue went away. Re-enabled, and issue still hasn’t occurred.

Thoughts?

It would be helpful if you could post a pic of the fps window once you get the bad stutters. It would show if there was a memory leak over time or an issue with trying to use more vram than your gpu physically has.

I’ll grab that for the next flight, thanks!
