BlackBox Simulation releases Cessna L-19 ‘Bird Dog’

I’ll have to check that in the morning - it has gotten late here and I have shut it down for the night.
I will post here when I have had a look - thanks

Graham, man… I am so happy you are involved here. I would think THAT alone should silence those who don’t have faith in your products. I really like what you do. Bring on the Islander!

thank you sir - I appreciate that you have taken the time to respond to my inquiries and that you have acted so quickly in the matter of the cold and dark startup issue.
As I say - the airplane is terrific - a favorite of mine for many reasons, not least of which is your attention to customer feedback.
Thank you

Islander? Definitely! I have jumped out of them quite a few times (with a parachute) and I have also worked on one.

I am eagerly looking forward to this.

Hello flight simmers,

After several hours of flight, the Bird Dog became my favorite airplane.

I enjoy it a lot because I watch some real Bird Dog pilot advice on YouTube, and I can reproduce in the sim the behavior of the airplane they describe (for example Landing tipps for the Cessna L19 O-1 Bird dog Taildragger, .... Landing BASICS !!! Hope you like it - YouTube )
Lot of fun and it shows that the developer has tuned a verry realistic flight model for the L-19 bird dog; congrats to the developer!

But I need your advice. I have an issue in the Bird Dog (Classic, don’t tried the bush or sea plane).
I don’t find any “Avionics Master Switch” and I think it is the reason on my issue.

My question, I am missing the “Avionics Master Switch”? or there is no “Avionics Master Switch”?

So, I have this issue with the ADF (NDB) that appears since I updated to the 1.8.1. version.

The issue only appears if you start “Cold & Dark” and start the engine manually. “Ctrl+E” solve the issue.
After start manually from “Cold and Dark”, the first issue, to tune the frequency on the ADF, I need to do a lot of click (or scroll a lot). Normally one click change the number.
Second issue, the compass pointer of the ADF do this cycle: It point the direction of the NDB ½ second, then come-back to the off position (East) for 1 second, then point the NDB,…. Same problem on the NDB tracker on the panel. Some months ago, ASOBO have the same problem in the C152 ADF.
When I have the ADF issue, I press “CTRL+E”, the issue disappears immediately; so, I think I forgot to click on a switch after startup; the “Avionics Master Switch”, but where it is? Do you know if I do something wrong?

Thank you in advance for your advice.
EDIT: spelling correction

Hi There … Glad your enjoying the Bird dog …

firstly - there is No Avionics master switch (as there are no real avionics )

Cold and dark (Ramp Starting) Has been an ongoing battle with ASOBO, They break it we fix it, they break it again … Im afraid the only advise I can offer at this time is Start via Ctrl+E to reset the issues , and then Shut down again if you really need to start from cold and dark

Sorry I cant be more helpful…

Hi NightMercury358,

Ok perfect, thank you for your explanations, it makes sense.

Yes, I will workaround with your advice. :+1:

So I’m not sure if it’s just missing or what is up, but I was trying to refer to your user manual on this Bird Dog for help and the section I need seems to be missing in action. I’m trying to get my ADF radio0 to work or show ANY sign of life other than just pointing WEST/EAST. The manual says it is covered in the Annex located on pages 108 and 109. Unfortunately the manual stops at page 107…I really want to fly this plane using the ADF system (was actually the selling point for me) but right now I can’t get it to work. Also, cold and dark starts are utterly impossible, even following the checklist. I don’t mind the CTRL-E but really need some info on the ADF system please!

I’d really love to get the cold and dark start back working…

Ok, belay the majority of my previous post. Issues regarding the ADF module as on me. The NDB units I was tuning weren’t active. I repeated the test in a different plane with no luck as well. Changed locations to Eastern Europe and was able to tune them in just fine.

Still, then annex pages would be great! Fun plane…except for the starting issues.

On a longer flight, my Little Bird Amphib’s engine just turns off. Like I ran out of fuel, but Im showing good fuel level. Can’t get it re-started. This is not a BIG problem, but I’m curious as to what might be happening, anybody with an idea?

Thank you, Doug

Fuel runs out at around 6%, I believe. This apparently is realistic. There is a post much higher up from the developer about this. Caught me out too!

Are you switching to the other tank?

Engine quitting … . Putting aside any fuel issues ?
Has this started recently … like Since Sim update 1.16. ???

hy Mercury , when you fix the bug of cold and dark ?? the engine dosnt start. tnx

I have bought the product and used it before figuring something’s wrong. I then compared it with the equally priced Piper Arrow Mk.III, by JustFlight (a full-fidelity aircraft mind you), and have concluded that, indeed, its quality was quite subpar for its price. But I don’t know - maybe there’s another company under the name of Blackbox on the marketplace, and maybe I have just installed the wrong L-19 and need clarification. Perhaps we can work together to resolve this confusion. Can you please reply and confirm for all of us here that this is indeed your product?
