Noted, and investigating thanks
Thank you!
Lots of variables to consider. I know…
Here is another GREAT Bird Dog video that could serve as a reference for Blackbox as well as independent livery developers.
For me it was a real eye-opener, because I did not know that the L-19 was so popular internationally.
It is so nice to see people from these countries getting together in sincere friendship while forgetting all the politics and ** that serve to divide us.

Edit: Thought I’d just add a couple of photos I took back in 1965 of USAF Bird Dogs on the PSP, Danang Air Base, Vietnam.
I just loaded this up after a rather long hiatus, and my default view seems to be placed about 20 feet in front of and above the actual plane. I tried to place my view back inside but when setting the default view with ctrl+F10, the sim crashed. Consider placing this in your cameras.cfg in the pilot section, it 100% prevents this from happening.

I usually fly the passenger airlines, and for breaks when I want to fly a light aircraft, I fly tricycle gear aircraft.
Yesterday I accidentally met and bought the BBS Cessna L19 Bird Dog 2020, and after a few test flights I can say this old beauty is a very good and stable plane that I have seen in MSFS 2020 until today.
I love this plane. The way in which adverse yaw is modeled is fantastic. I could go on all day about the good things that this one has!
I also think the Bird Dog is one of the most enjoyable planes to come to MSFS. Having been a fan of the aircraft since building an Airfix kit many (too many) moons ago, I have long been interested in its deployment and it’s lineage to various earlier spotter and liaison types.
Looking forward to hearing whatever updates @NightMercury358 has in mind once the much anticipated Islander update has landed.
I would be getting this one if it would get a similar level of improvements to the cockpit as the Islander.
I too am a fan of this bird since it’s release. I discovered recently that the ADF function does not work properly (needle jumps back and forth and will not stay steady when tuned to an NDB) and I hope Graham will investigate this in spite of the Bird Dog’s development being officially complete. And add an external door handle to the starboard side. . It is still a delight to fly and sight see in. I have been a supporter of this product since it’s early, somewhat rocky debut and am happy to see the level of refinement it has received. If the above items were addressed, it would be nearly perfect.
My only main gripe is the mixture lever making a ticking noise when I operate it with my hotas instead of grabbing it with the mouse. Other than that, move the CG back (29.20) for my personal taste, just keep taxiing slow and small turns or it will ground loop, kick the ■■■■■ out, and it’s like flying a cub! Updated interior textures would be amazing but the flight model alone trumps that for me. Basically the only bird I fly for bush stuff. Islander has the same great feel while flying.
I personally love the ticking sound! I feel it’s a great feedback and every lever should have some specific sound.
Hey @NightMercury358!
Just curious if the Bird Dog is in line for any updates going forward? I’m very happy with it as-is (I’ve been around flight sims long enough that I’m about the overall experience and feel of flying a particular plane, not poking around for texture imperfections), and still fly it after buying it week 1.
But after seeing the awesome jump from the initial release of the Islander to the current Trislander, it’d be interesting to see what you might do with the Bird Dog given it was your initial MSFS release!
Again, I don’t have complaints, just curious if tweaks are in the long-term plan, because nobody complains when really good gets even better.
I agree, but that isn’t the case here. The ticking is some sort of glitch that i believe was explained somewhere in this thread. I use the x52 hotas, and the radial dial on the throttle for mixture. It is hard to get the mixture where you want it without the mixture knob in the aircraft going back and forth, causing the constant ticking, as if it can’t find a seated position and keeps trying to decide where it’s supposed to be.
“as if it can’t find a seated position and keeps trying to decide where it’s supposed to be.”
Strangely enough, this is a very good description of what the ADF needle does when trying to track an NDB…very odd.
I’m sure BBS will at least look into it when they see this. They are typically fairly present on the forums.
Sounds like a calibration issue. I’d set a small deadzone on that axis and see if it goes away, or recalibrate. I do agree though that any sound on an axis needs to be very selectively triggered. Other devs have fully removed those types of sounds due to this same issue.
Oh I didn’t realize that you guys hear clicking sound all the time in some positions. I’m using and old sound mixer as a controller and I only hear sound when I change the mixture.
Deadzones and curves don’t do anything, the sound and issue is present through out the entire “throw” of the dial on the hotas throttle. Don’t have the issue in other planes. It just is what it is until/unless it gets fixed. X52 hotas btw fwiw.
An interesting question.
For the first time I had a similar experience, just yesterday. Different plane, different airport. Didn’t think much of it and it hasn’t recurred. I just wrote it off to an OS/MSFS glitch of some kind. But if you’d like, you can at least take comfort in knowing that it’s not just you!
Just picked this one up, based on my experiences with the BBS Islander and Trislander aircraft. Wanted a “low and slow” tail dragged in my hangar but most of them are badly behaved and difficult verging on impossible on the ground - and to get on the ground.
The Bird Dog is an absolute joy to fly and to land (three point and wheel) And it’s got bags of character and good sounds. Will be my “go to” tail dragger….
