Blown Away - London Photogrammetry

As a old school simmer who remembers being excited to receive DVD’s in the mail from JustFlight with photoreal ground textures for England in FS2004 (funnily enough, still available online for less than £1!), I am completely blow away with London after the UK world update 3. The leaps forward in technology since the FS2004 days are amazing, and I’m astounded at how flawlessly the data of the 3D photogrammetry streams to my home PC on the other side of the globe.

Screenshots don’t do it justice, but I couldn’t help but hit the capture button a few times as I followed the Thames from EGLC to EGWU.

I was almost blown away by the wind coming from my GPU every time I visit there.

And now, three and a half years later, here’s a comparison with London in World Update 17. Certainly the Docklands skyscrapers look a lot better, and the higher res of the TIN appears far crisper on screen overall.

It’s a shame MS didn’t apply water masks to the bridges along the Thames and throw a battleship on HMS Belfast though! Thought that would have been an easy to achieve and wouldn’t have slipped past quality control.
