Bluetooth controller causes CTD on pc

Its been years since ive ran into issues this frustrating. Ive been playing the simulator with a bluetooth xbox controller on my pc for some time now without issue, but tonight it started crashing to desktop with the controller hooked up. I can start the sim back up if the controller is not hooked up, but then as soon as i connect it, it will crash.

Ive tried rolling back the drivers on the bluetooth device on my pc, and have had no luck. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi @YuKkYdUcKy ,

Have you looked at the event viewer? I had a similar issue with a Logitech wireless mouse (albeit connected via their dongle and not Bluetooth), and it was the Logitech Options program that was the root cause of my sim crashes. It was constantly crashing in the background without me realizing it, but something in the sim didn’t like that. I only figured it out through the event viewer.

I hadn’t looked at the event viewer. After researching the problem a bit further though, I had found that somebody had a similar issue on the xbox after signing in to cloud gaming on games pass while away from their console. They had to reset their profile in order to delete the controller profile which was automatically set up on their phone/tablet (as they had used an xbox controller connected via bluetooth to play). Once they did that, it worked as normal.

I reluctantly went through that process and sure enough, I have lost all of my progress, flight hours, and achievements. Im trying not to think about it too much, because it isnt too much of a big deal. Luckily all of my downloads are still there. It kind of hurts to lose ≈1400 hours flying though.

Now that i have reset that, it works. I had to remap my controls though.

I forgot to mention that the night before was the first time that i had used “cloud gaming” with msfs and hooked up that same controller rhat i use on the pc, but on my ipad. I was testing it out to see if i could viably use that as a solution to fly the sim while im at work. I had recently gotten a friend into the sim, and they dont have a computer so they rely on cloud gaming and an iphone to play the game.

Glad you figured it out, but yikes that is a major pain and probably something MS should look into.
