Blurry ground textures in MSFS 2024 - what are your experiences?

Hi folks… I was wondering about other simmer’s experiences when it is about the ground textures. This morning I started a flight and finally textures where neat and ‘sharp’, also at greater distances (runways were not blurry anymore too on approach). Now I am back to the old situation: blurry runways at approach and at short distance blurry ground textures. I am curious about other simmer’s experiences as it seems to me all a server issue (if there are no server issues, the sim seems visually as stunning as MSFS 2020 when it is about the ground textures). Thanks for your comments!

Yes, very blurry in VR (Reverb G2), both in cockpit resolution and ground textures. I feel almost crosseyed. A very far cry from the crispness of the DCS textures I am used to.
Another annoying thing is trying mightily to rid myself of the gamey “assistants”.

I finally got rid of controls turning blue, The lollypops stuck on the landscape informing you of so and so hospital or airport, but I cannot for the life of me get rid of a window right in my forward view that says recenter view and a lot of tickboxes.
Very annoying.

However, I can see the potential…

I think it will be all a matter of time for things to settle down… This morning I thought: wow, it can work as it should…!

Same. Probably bandwidth issues on MS side.

I had terrain now load once. I did a repair (takes about 10 seconds to run) and that fixed it.

Other than that, zero blurries. It’s tons better than 2020, which I’m getting real close to deleting.

Those who experience blurry ground textures, could you list example of locations? Ideally with screenshots. That way it’s quite easy to see if it’s the case for everyone or rather related to server load etc?

yeah its a blurry mess, flying low its alright but as soon as you climb its not looking very good

I don’t think there is one cause. Some are:

  1. Server bandwidth
  2. Users internet connections
  3. I’m not certain that caching is working as well as it should. Quite a few say the second load takes as long as the first. Which means either caching isn’t working, or bandwidth has nothing to do with it. In my case, on the second time it is maybe a couple of seconds quicker the second time. I haven’t tried to measure that accurately but there doesn’t seem to be much time saving on my 1gbps connection.

If you use a network monitor, you can see that not much more than 1.5 GB is actually downloaded and that’s the A330 at an Aus international airport I’d never used or been to before. I had two network monitors agree it weas only that much so it seems to be true.

I get the impression a lot of people think it is downloading 20 GB or something. No where near it.

I’m experiencing blurry textures, horrible photogeometry. You can’t see the sharp, high-resolution textures, if they exist at all. I’m already questioning whether the previous intro videos were real or just a rip-off. The visuals are horrible. MSFS 2020 is a wonderful simulator compared to this. My bandwidth is 250-300 Mbit.

Hi… what kind of repair did you do?

repairing wont fix anything man, its a problem from the server, imho they are probably limiting the scenery streaming so server arre not overloaded

The textures and Terrain LOD is ridiculous and like FS2004 now.

Even the VR performance is so degraded than MSFS2020.

When loaded and working sharper more detailed than 2020 is my experience, especially mountains.

Im getting a mixed bag, which does seem to point to server side issues. Sometimes I get amazing lovely textures, others not some much. Especially at a distance while in the air…. Sometimes even on approach less than 5 miles out, the runway looks like FS4…. As I get closer to landing, its gets a little better but not always…

Running fiber optic 3.0Gbit to the house and a 4090…. No restrictions on my end…

Supposedly, the MapEnhancement utility works with MSFS2024. I’ve used it with no issues, and they claim it will even speed up terrain loading. I still get blurries, but in real life, things in the distance aren’t crystal clear anyway. I think this will get better in time.

I used to use it exclusively in 2020, didn’t think I would need to in 2024, now thinking it may be the way to go, will check it out. Thanks for the info.

Yes, for the same LOD setting ground textures are noticeably more blurry compared to 2020

Same here — I always used it in 2020, but I’ve found it to be less useful in 2024. I struggled to notice any difference in quality, even with HighLOD enabled.

At first, I thought it wasn’t working, so I contacted the developer. It turns out it was working, but with all the added ground details in 2024, it’s much harder to tell which map you’re using
