Good day to everyone.
Asking for a hint: at the rigth of the Flight Management systems, precisely there is the Decision Altitude Source knob which shows RADIO or BARO as source of it. I use Xbox Series X version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Tutorials on YouTube don’t show anything about wich source of Decision Altitude, if BARO or RADIO. If i turn RADIO Decision Altitude turns off. If i turn BARO it turns on and it is to me to choose the altitude of the Decision Altitude.
Usually, those of you who fly on Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, what source you choose and/or what would you suggest me to choose?
Thanks in advance for your counseil and blue skies to you all!!!
Moved to #community-support:aviate-navigate-communicate which is more appropriate
Thanks, i didn’t know where to vrite it and i chosen the former category you moved this topic from
Assuming that “radio” means radio altimeter (I am not very familiar with heavy jet flying, sorry): decision altitude using baro is generally the way to go. The reason is baro gives you the “true” MSL altitude. With radio, the indication depends on the terrain in front of the runway. If the runway sits on elevated terrain, this can be very dangerous.
You have my thanks, indeed i use always baro, but i hade to set the decision altitude much igher above sea level when i landed in Santiago de Chile, since it’s about 1551. I sat at 1800.
