All - I do not like the flight characteristics of the 787, so went to 747. I have watched 5 different videos on how the AP is supposed to work, I made notes, setup check list for cold and dark start at ramp large in KATL. Check FMC to make sure it had the correct information etc. Just flew practise from KATL to KMGE (Dobbins ARB-Maretta, GA) a flight as the crow files of 25 miles. Setting up flight in world map as recommended by all the YT’ubers, it takes you on a 50-80 mile trip to get you lined up on ILS Rw 29 (289 degrees). Fought VNAV the whole way, LNAV seemed to keep plane on course and hit waypoints like I should. Now, last year at sims release, took 787 on a practice flight from KATL to Nashville, TN International. Then, plan flew right over the airport, so I said I got something wrong. Tonight (daylight flight) plane did not get the ILS, but the freq was dialed into FMC correct freq as I have approach plate. Plane flew right over the AP. Pulled the disconnect per YT video, to turn off AP, nada, did not go off. Tried to land manually. AT and FD OFF, well tried to turn them off, would not respond. Just drove plane into ground was so mad at this sim. I hate this thing.
FWIW- Tonight reinstalled FSX, with the Acceleration Pack, fought it for while to get it activitated. Loaded Virtavia C-17, then fought Honeycomb comfigruator/versus just setting up the throttles etc myself. Got everything working, first flight used slew mode to get up to 2500 feet and then flew around with C-17 AP working perfect. Used GPS to find AP, plugged in ILS 29 Freq, heading, got close, pushed the APP button, plane flew itself down to 1000’ and I took over and landed perfect. Have to use Keyboard for reverse thrust, have not figured out how to get HC-BTQ for that. Pulled Aircraft
off Runway, turned around, took off again, flew out well past outer marker, turned around and did approach all over again, lined up, ILS followed down 1000’ took over and landed again. Two perfect flights with a plane built in the 90’s, old tech, old sim, BUT IT WORKS PERFECT. FWIW, weight characteristics of both planes is very close, under body wing vurses over body wing, so C-17 might fly slightly better. Regardless, I have tried and tried and tried on MSFS using the 747 and watched the same training videos at least 10 times, not stupid here. MSFS is a waste of time. But finally, an almost study level miltary jet to be released on 19th, DC Designs F-14 Tomcat, have seen two videos on it, all systems work perfect. Don’t think it’s got real sophisticated Auto pilot, but I am considering it, just to find a plane in this mess, which actually works. If I take the plug (34.99), I will report on it. For every plane in MSFS, they are junk, even had trouble with C152 & 172, and please been flying in FS’s since FS-98. Was taught how to fly/navigate by MD-11 Delta Captain Qualified Pilot, am not novice, this sim is a mess and the planes are just as bad. I am going back to FSX for the big iron, and may buy the F-14 just to have plane which actually works like it is supposed to. The only saving grace is the excellent graphics. I ues ear buds so don’t make noise, but sound drops out, but don’t get stutters so it could be bluetooth on PC. Have not tried wired Headphones, separate problem. I am so mad at this thing, try and try and try, and ever single time it screws me over.
