The Grand Canyon is a fair start, especially the sun angle and shadows:
The North rim is 10 miles away, so I doubt the GPU loaded good textures that far away (I have a gtx1080TI with 11GB). I see your point about over saturation, especially in the distance. But as time went on it seemed to get better.
