Navigating the complicated menu screens of MSFS 2024 is very hard without a mouse pointer. The virtual cursor was a great way to operate the front-end designed for mouse without an actual mouse, purely with an Xbox controller, in MSFS 2020. However, this feature is either missing or not working properly.
It’s also inconsistent where the virtual cursor is available:
- Not available on the main menu
- Not available on the World Map (this one is understandable with the overhauled map navigation and tools)
- It is, however, available on the Marketplace / My Library menu
- Available when you open the EFB on the World Map
- Available, but inoperative during walkaround
So if the cursor is there on the Marketplace menu then I don’t understand why it can’t be used elsewhere. It would be much easier and more convenient to select aircraft, navigate menus, especially the Settings / Controls menu, like in MSFS 2020. Hereby I’d like to ask the developers to bring back the virtual cursor everywhere, not just for the Marketplace and the EFB. And to make it operational for walkarounds as well, if it’s already there in the first place.
I know PC users all have a mouse and many Xbox players also have one for their console, but the majority of console players don’t use a mouse, neither do people who play via Cloud Gaming. So the virtual cursor and easy navigation with the gamepad would be very important. Right now it’s both cumbersome and inconsistent. MSFS 2020 had this sorted immediately with the Xbox release so 2024 currently is a big step backwards in terms of UX.
